<p>Under the direction of the Associate Dean and Program Chairs of the English Department, the Adjunct Instructor, English position involves participating in and contributing to a dynamic department whose faculty is responsible for instructing students in a variety of English-integrated reading and writing courses in a campus classroom, online/remote, hybrid, and/or off-campus setting. This is a part-time temporary position.</p> <p>Essential Functions</p> <ul> <li> <p>Provide Instruction in Assigned Subject Areas:</p> </li><li> <p>Teaching assignments for this position may include, but are not limited to, both General Education and Academic Transfer courses, Beginning Reading and Writing, Intermediate Reading and Writing, Business Communications, Co-Requisite Writing Workshop, Composition I, Composition II, and occasional literature classes.</p> </li><li> <p>Provide For Student Evaluation and Recordkeeping:</p> </li><li> <p>Prepare and administer evaluation instruments and maintain accurate student records on attendance, achievement, and progress.</p> </li></ul> <p>Promote a Culture of Belonging</p> <p>Support and promote an environment of belonging where all students, faculty members, and college employees feel welcomed, valued, and empowered to contribute. Work schedules (hours/days/work location) are scheduled by Southeast Community College based on the needs of the College. Work hours, shifts, days, and work locations may vary depending on the needs of Southeast Community College and are subject to modification. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek. </li></ul> <p>Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Ability to communicate effectively in writing, in person, and on the phone. </li><li>Ability to use basic computer skills. </li><li>Ability to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds for short distances and move tables, chairs, and media equipment when necessary. </li><li>The individual must possess the above skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Master's Degree. </li><li>18 graduate hours in English. </li></ul> <p>Desired Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Work experience teaching reading and writing at the two-year college level. </li><li>Work experience working with diverse populations of students at various levels of language ability/skill/learning style in both academic and career/technical degree programs. </li><li>Education or training in adult education theory and methodologies. </li><li>Experience teaching integrated reading & writing. </li></ul> <p>Salary</p> <p>TBD</p> <p>Benefits</p> <p>Part-time temporary employees are eligible to participate in the TIAA retirement plan through a Roth, SRA, or 457(B) account, with no match provided by the College.</p> <p>Schedule</p> <p>This is a part-time temporary position with assignments based on program needs.</p>
