<p>Alternative education is the new frontier for those school leaders who possess the key attributes of creativity, innovation, and design thinking in order to do schooling differently for both students and faculty outside of the restrictions of the traditional comprehensive model. The Fall River Public Schools is looking for a leader with tremendous enthusiasm to serve opportunity youth and meet the academic, social, emotional, and developmental needs of students within a grade 7-12 model. We are looking for someone will skills and experience in project-based learning, collapsed competency-based curriculum centered on key identified learning standards and performance assessments, integrated community service-learning, trauma-informed school culture, and able to build a strong, supportive, and caring school climate. The successful candidate will have a strong background in leadership, team-building, instruction, student support, and the ability to manage multiple pathways for student success.</p> <p>They will have the ability to be creative with programs and strategies to motivate staff and students and find alternative solutions for struggling students. Our teams model strong communication skills, with compassion and the ability to build relationships that engage our diverse students and families and support them with their challenges. We have strong structures and support services for our students' social and emotional learning needs. Our district continues to invest in technology and programming to facilitate and accelerate credit recovery and advancement. Our program has secured additional funding to create and implement alternative pathways for our students' futures. We nurture and develop strong partnerships in the community to support the work and vision of Resiliency Preparatory Academy.</p> <p>Come join a winning team, and be a part of our success!</p> <p>FALL RIVER PUBLIC SCHOOLS</p> <p>FALL RIVER, MASSACHUSETTS</p> <p>POSITION: PRINCIPAL - ALTERNATIVE SECONDARY SCHOOL</p> <p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Master's Degree from an accredited institution </li><li>MA DESE licensure in the following areas: </li><li>Principal at appropriate grade level(s) </li><li>Three years administrative experience at the appropriate level(s) </li><li>Five years teaching experience at the appropriate level(s) </li></ul> <p>DUTIES:</p> <p>The principal is responsible to the Superintendent for the organization, administration, and supervision of instruction and discipline of the school. For day-to-day operations, the principal is responsible jointly to the Chief Academic Officer, Assistant Superintendent for Special Education, and the Assistant Superintendent for Student Support Services.</p> <p>They will develop a close working relationship with the Chief Financial Officer for financial and administrative matters, the Executive Director of Human Resources for matters related to personnel, and the Chief Operating Officer for the facility, custodial and maintenance duties.</p> <ul> <li>Serves as the administrative head of the school and, as such, have responsibility for coordination of the total resources of the school and general supervision of all school activities, safety, and welfare. </li><li>Develops a strategic improvement plan to close student achievement gaps, provide necessary staffing, and work to secure funding and include budgetary items. </li><li>Provides leadership in instructional improvement and standards-based teaching and learning within the school by visiting classrooms, conferring with teachers, and assisting in the selection and use of instructional materials. </li><li>Supervises and evaluates instructional staff to support increased student learning to ensure student proficiency in math, English language arts, science and social studies. </li><li>Oversees the orientation of all new faculty members, insuring new members will be totally familiar with school philosophy, texts, instructional guides, personnel policies and student handbook. </li><li>Stimulates professional improvement through professional development in a well-planned in-service training program for faculty. </li><li>Aids teachers with their daily programs and lesson plans when needed. </li><li>Shares in the development of effective instructional practices and assumes responsibility for the implementation of curricula. </li><li>Consults regularly with and coordinates the services of subject specialists so that all classroom teachers may receive effective assistance. </li><li>Personally controls activities involving pupil/parent contacts such as dealing with suspensions, expulsions, student progress and adjustment, placement of students, guidance and counseling matters and other pupil/parent relationships that are delicate in nature. </li><li>Provides for individual differences and places each student in an atmosphere which will stimulate learning and progress. </li><li>Is available at all times to consult with parents and teachers concerning the welfare of any student. </li><li>Implements the policies of the school committee and the directives of the Superintendent of schools. </li><li>Oversees, supervises and certifies the preparation, accuracy, and maintenance of a wide variety of records and reports. </li><li>Administers the budget appropriation allocated to the school. </li><li>Is responsible for all moneys collected on the operation of the school and the keeping of accurate records of these funds. </li><li>Supervises the maintenance, cleanliness and security of the building and its contents. </li><li>Submits written reports upon request to the Superintendent. </li><li>Cooperates with recognized social and law enforcement agencies in such a way as to utilize the service of these organizations for the best interest of his/her school. </li><li>Performs all other related activities assigned by the Superintendent of Schools. </li></ul> <p>SALARY : $127,000 to $140,000</p> <p>TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: To be negotiated</p> <p>Please apply for this position through the Fall River Schools website.
