<p>The Monson Public School District is seeking a dynamic and innovative educational leader who possesses a compelling vision for the future of middle and secondary education, a strong ability to lead, collaborate and inspire the faculty, staff, and students at Monson High School, and an unwavering commitment to excellence, equity, and inclusion. The principal will lead and manage a highly effective and respected school as a professional learning community characterized by common purpose, collaborative activity, and collective responsibility.</p> <p>The Building Principal is responsible for providing instructional leadership to a school community that prides itself on educational excellence and equity through the development and implementation of strong and innovative curricular programs, the planning and provision of high-quality professional development, and the development and maintenance of a budget that is fiscally responsible and supports the district's strategic plan. Instructional Leadership</p> <ul> <li>Lead, support, and model a culture in which all staff are reflective about their practice and use data, current research, and best practices to continuously adapt instruction and practice to achieve improved results. </li><li>Lead the development of a school learning environment in which: </li><li>All teachers design effective and rigorous standards-based units of instruction consisting of well- structured lessons with measurable outcomes for all students. </li><li>Instructional practices in all settings reflect high expectations regarding content and quality of effort and work, engage all students, and are personalized to accommodate diverse learning styles, needs, interests, and levels of readiness. </li><li>All teachers use a variety of formal and informal methods and assessments to measure student learning, growth, and understanding and make necessary adjustments to their practice when students are not learning. </li><li>The scheduling of classes, students, and work study/internships within the school setting and community reflects best practice. </li><li>Instruction is both differentiated and culturally proficient. </li><li>Instructional time is used effectively. </li><li>Quality co-curricular programs including, but not limited to sports, the arts, and other opportunities for personal and academic growth, are developed and maintained. </li></ul> <p>Management & Operations</p> <ul> <li>Lead and support the effective and efficient management of school resources and operations through: </li><li>The development and implementation of effective plans, procedures, routines, and operational systems to address the full range of safety, health, and emotional and social needs of all students. </li><li>The supervision and evaluation of school personnel in alignment with DESE standards and the goals and objectives of the MPS strategic plan. </li><li>Implementing the established policies and practices of the School Committee, the district, and collective bargaining agreements. </li><li>The development of a proposed annual operating budget for consideration by the Superintendent of Schools and the School Committee in collaboration with the School Council and staff. </li><li>The effective management of the school facilities in conjunction with the district's Director of Facilities. </li><li>The recruitment, support, development, and respect of highly qualified, culturally proficient, and effective staff who share the district's values and will contribute to the professional learning community and the success of the school. </li><li>The management of student behavior, in collaboration with staff and such specialist personnel as may be necessary, in a way which is consistent, fair, and equitable, and in compliance with state regulations. </li><li>Keeping the Superintendent informed of the school's activities and challenges and whenever appropriate, make recommendations for their improvement or solution. </li></ul> <p>Family & Community Engagement</p> <ul> <li>Lead in the development of positive, collaborative relationships with staff, students and families and outside agencies which are involved in the work of the school and its students by: </li><li>Supporting the development of an effective School Council and other organizations that support the work of the school. </li><li>Maintaining visibility attending school, district and community events. </li><li>Creating a welcoming atmosphere for all parents through written communication, establishment of volunteer opportunities, and organization of events such as workshops and parent coffees. </li></ul> <p>Professional Culture</p> <ul> <li>Lead in the continuous development of a culturally competent positive learning community at the school and district level by: </li><li>Being an active and collaborative member of school and district-wide leadership teams. </li><li>Fostering a shared commitment to high standards in all aspects of the life and work of the school and the students. </li><li>Ensuring that all students have equitable access to all MPS academic and extra-curricular opportunities. </li><li>Contributing to the development of a professional learning community which is characterized by shared purpose, data analysis, collaborative activity, and collective responsibility. </li><li>Behaving in an ethical, fair, and culturally proficient manner at all times. </li><li>Undertaking such duties as may be assigned from time to time that lie within the scope of the position. </li></ul> <p>EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS A Master's of Education degree from an accredited college or university is required. Prior experience as a School Principal/Administrator is preferred. At least five years of successful school teaching and/or administrative experience with evidence of strong leadership ability. Selected candidates must be licensed as a Principal/Assistant Principal by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.</p> <p>ABILITY AND EXPERIENCE Previous administrative and/or leadership experience is preferred. Demonstrated ability with developmentally appropriate programs, interdisciplinary curriculum and integrated Special Education programs. Strong public relations skills and tangible evidence of ability to relate to pupils, parents, colleagues and the central office administration.</p>
