This role will work primarily with</p> <p>lower string students and/or small groups as determined by the lead strings teacher.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The desired candidate for the Watertown Strings</p> <p>Performing Arts Position will be responsible for assisting with teaching string instrumental</p> <p>lessons to students in 4th through 8th grade. . The educator will be part of a vibrant learning</p> <p>community and tasked with instruction that helps students grow in their participation and</p> <p>understanding, and in creating music experiences that are culturally relevant and reflect the</p> <p>values of the learning community. The Strings Educator will be tasked with designing and</p> <p>implementing lessons primarily for cello and bass, with some small group instruction for violin</p> <p>and viola. The educator in this role will also assist with large group instruction.</p> <p>REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES</p> <p>? Proficiency in teaching a culturally relevant instrumental music curriculum</p> <p>? Understanding of both upper and lower string instrument pedagogy (violin, viola, cello,</p> <p>bass)</p> <p>? Proficiency in teaching elementary strings and developing relevant performance</p> <p>opportunities</p> <p>? Plans, rehearses, and directs students in a minimum of two performance opportunities</p> <p>per academic year Assists in the planning and execution of a minimum of two</p> <p>performance opportunities per academic year</p> <p>? Promotes and publicizes student performance opportunities</p> <p>? Differentiates the music curriculum to meet the needs of the individual student</p> <p>? Develops and refines music curriculum based on NAfME's standards of creating,</p> <p>performing, and responding</p> <p>? Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly,</p> <p>productive, and positive learning environment</p> <p>? Assesses and evaluates students' growth</p> <p>? Communicate clearly and consistently with parents and learning partners on the</p> <p>progress of individual students</p> <p>? Ability to arrange repertoire to meet student skill level</p> <p>? Maintain music library, school instruments, and equipment</p> <p>? Contribute to the Professional Learning Team regarding teaching and learning</p> <p>? Skill in selecting culturally relevant repertoire</p> <p>EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE</p> <p>? MA DESE MUSIC EDUCATOR LICENSURE</p> <p>? Preferred background in Music Education</p> <p>? Comfort level with teaching beginning and intermediate cello and bass lessons</p> <p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT</p> <p>The position can be physically demanding given the number of students the strings educator</p> <p>will be assisting with, in addition to traveling between schools.. Reasonable accommodations</p> <p>may be made if requested in advance. Performance Arts Educators are required to supervise</p> <p>students in a variety of settings. Moving between classrooms may be required. Moving</p> <p>physical objects such as instruments, music stands, and written music is required.
