The Assistant Director (Career Consultant) position will report to the Director, Workforce Development and Business Enterprise Center. The position will work collaboratively with the Director, faculty, and staff to coordinate and provide essential career readiness services which support the career, academic, personal, and professional preparation needs of students. Focus of the position is on career readiness, professional development, and experiential learning students at the Lake Campus. This position serves as a career advisor. In addition, the Assistant Director will partner with external and campus partners to increase participation in experiential learning opportunities throughout the university.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Required Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Human Services, Psychology, Human Resources, or closely related field and 3 years professional experience in career development, higher education, human resources, or closely related field OR </li><li>Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Psychology, Human Resources, or closely related field and a minimum of 5 years experience in career development, higher education, human resources, or closely related field </li><li>Knowledge of career and student development theories </li><li>Knowledge of career assessments </li><li>Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Licensed in Ohio as a Professional Counselor or Social Worker </li><li>Experience in a University Career office working with diverse student population </li><li>Experience utilizing Handshake </li></ul> <p>Essential Functions and percent of time:</p> <p>Career Advising for Students & Alumni (55%)</p> <ul> <li>Provide career coaching/advising on the following topics: career assessments, major and career exploration, job/internship search, graduate school planning, and professional skill development through scheduled and drop-in appointments with individuals and groups (in person and virtually.) </li><li>Focus on early intervention and reach for all students. Career Readiness interventions include resume and cover lettering writing, mock interviews, job search skills, etc. </li><li>Develop coaching strategies in support of Enrollment Management persistence, retention, and outcomes goals. </li><li>Advise and coach students to ensure their persistence at the University using proactive, developmental, and appreciative advising and coaching techniques. </li><li>Master a firm knowledge of other campus support offices and centers and make appropriate referrals on campus and within the community. </li></ul> <p>Supporting Campus Activities & Events (35%)</p> <ul> <li>Work collaboratively with the Director, faculty and staff to coordinate and provide essential services, which support the career and professional preparation needs of students at the Lake Campus. Serve as Career Development lead. </li><li>Plan, develop, and deliver programming for the essential services of career advising, career-related programming (i.e. workshops, classroom presentations), and graduate schools services. </li><li>Plan, execute, and evaluate career and experiential education events and services that engage students, alumni, and employers including career fairs, internships, career treks, informational interviews, etc. </li><li>Teach career courses/seminars as needed. </li><li>Facilitate campus-wide group-format career education sessions. Engage students with career programs, services and resources. </li><li>Promote Lake Campus website, database management tools, and social media accounts. Create social media content. </li><li>Fulfill campus-level and collaborative unit requests for career programs and career presentations. </li><li>Gather First Destination Survey data each semester from alumni. </li></ul> <p>Essential Functions and percent of time (cont'd):</p> <p>External Relations (10%)</p> <ul> <li>Develop and cultivate relationships with external partners to identify and recruit potential mentors, job shadow sites, internship partners, and employers. </li><li>Support data collection for the First Destination Survey </li><li>Represent the department at recruitment events for incoming undergraduate and graduate students, and provide coaching to prospective students as needed. </li></ul> <p>Non-Essential Functions and percent of time: Working Conditions</p> <p>Must be able to work evening and weekend hours as needed.</p> <p>To preserve the safety and security of the campus community and to maintain the integrity of university operations, it is the policy of Wright State University making an employment offer contingent on various background checks, such as a criminal record, credit history when job related and/or education verifications.
