Posting Number 20162773F Job Description</p> <p>The Ohio University Department of History is hiring a visiting professor in US History with a commitment to student success. The era of specialization is open, but the person hired will be expected to teach upper-division courses in US Women's History and US social and cultural history, as well as lower division survey courses in US history. The courses will be delivered mostly in-person at the Athens Campus, but there may be the opportunity to teach an online course in our Master of Social Sciences program. The teaching load is typically eight in-person courses per academic year on a semester schedule.</p> <p>This Visiting Professor position is a full-time, nine-month position for the academic year 2025-2026 (from August 16, 2025, to May 15, 2026).</p> <p>History Department: The Department of History has 21 full-time faculty across the main campus and five regional campuses in Southern and Central Ohio. Situated within the College of Arts & Sciences, the Department is committed to excellence in teaching, research, and service to the students it serves in the undergraduate major, M.A., M.S.S. and Ph.D. degree programs, and across the university in humanities and social science general education courses. The foundational instruction for the entire university, delivered through the general education and liberal arts curriculum, is provided by the College of Arts and Sciences. The college provides the primary instruction for approximately one-third of the undergraduate majors on campus, as well as half of the undergraduate credit hours on the Athens campus. The campus is located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains amidst scenic state and national parks, and is 75 minutes southeast of Columbus, Ohio.</p> <p>Responsibilities: The regular teaching load is four courses per semester and will be offered in person and possibly online modalities. The candidate will teach upper-division courses in United States Women's History and US social, cultural history. Scholars of any period will be considered, but the instructor will be expected to teach lower-division surveys in US History.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>The department prefers a PhD in history, although ABD candidates who can demonstrate they will have the PhD in hand prior to August 2025 will be considered.</p> <p>Prior teaching experience is required.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>Preference will be given to faculty who have experience teaching US women's history and/or US social and cultural history.</p> <p>Department History Pay Rate</p> <p>Salary will be commensurate with education and experience, while also considering internal equity.
