This position also facilitates professional development for educators, collaborates with stakeholders, advocates for equity and inclusion, and assists in strategic planning. Ultimately, the Assistant Superintendent is instrumental in shaping the educational experience and ensuring high-quality instruction for all students.</p> <p>Description:</p> <p>The Assistant Superintendent will lead cross-functional teams to implement district and operational policies, ensuring that schools maintain environments conducive to maximizing student achievement. This role involves planning, organizing, coordinating, and evaluating all phases of curriculum development and articulation while managing a comprehensive system focused on continuous improvement in student performance. The Assistant Superintendent will primarily oversee curriculum, instruction, and assessment, while also playing a crucial role in supporting the evaluation and supervision processes.</p> <p>Essential Duties:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Leadership and Support</p> </li><li> <p>Provide support and foster a culture that motivates teachers and administrators to achieve excellence, improving student achievement and closing the achievement gap among racial, ethnic, and economic groups.</p> </li><li> <p>Lead cross-functional teams to implement district policies that maximize student achievement.</p> </li><li> <p>Works closely with other central office leaders and principals to ensure that the academic and social emotional needs of all students are addressed and that the district's Instructional Vision is implemented PreK-12, reflecting the needs for all MPS learners.</p> </li><li> <p>Facilitates the effective use of data to meet the learning needs of students who are high needs and historically underserved.</p> </li><li> <p>Apply knowledge of Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, MCAS, Science of Reading, and advanced placement practices.</p> </li><li> <p>Leads the district's academic initiatives and ensures that all students receive a high-quality education aligned with MA state standards and district priorities.</p> </li><li> <p>Supervises and evaluates academic administrators.</p> </li><li> <p>Curriculum Development and Oversight</p> </li><li> <p>Plan, organize, coordinate, evaluate, and direct all phases of curriculum development and articulation.</p> </li><li> <p>Supervise the development of curricula, courses of study, and instructional materials.</p> </li><li> <p>Evaluate programs and make proposals for improvement.</p> </li><li> <p>Works with Curriculum and Department Directors to conduct systematic evaluation of existing curriculum to identify strengths and weaknesses and make necessary adjustments.</p> </li><li> <p>Continuous Improvement and Professional Development</p> </li><li> <p>Works with administrators and staff to develop a systemic approach to student progress monitoring and interventions, and data collection.</p> </li><li> <p>Oversees the district mentoring programs and staff development efforts.</p> </li><li> <p>Coordinate all district accreditations and state program reviews.</p> </li><li> <p>Works with district administration to organize, prepare and facilitate professional development opportunities throughout the district.</p> </li><li> <p>Communication and Public Representation</p> </li><li> <p>Utilize communication methods to promote understanding of the district's educational efforts and celebrate achievements.</p> </li><li> <p>Represent the district in instructional matters to the public and specific groups.</p> </li><li> <p>Prepare reports on instructional and assessment programs and manage instructional budgets, including educational grants.</p> </li><li> <p>Oversee the development of partnerships aligned with district improvement strategies.</p> </li><li> <p>Writes and oversees entitlement and competitive grants.</p> </li></ul> <p>Other Duties:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Provide guidance and oversight to the Elementary Reading Department, including the Elementary Literacy Coaches.</p> </li><li> <p>Offer support and guidance to Human Resources as needed, participating in regular status meetings with key district directors and administrators.</p> </li><li> <p>Member of HUB team to assist with all student and family registration needs.</p> </li><li> <p>Serves as a member of the Superintendent's Cabinet.</p> </li><li> <p>Other responsibilities as identified by the Superintendent</p> </li></ul> <p>Credentials:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field.</p> </li><li> <p>Valid Massachusetts teaching certification and administrative license.</p> </li><li> <p>Extensive experience in curriculum development, instructional best practices, and educational leadership.</p> </li><li> <p>Proven ability to lead teams and manage complex educational initiatives that result in measurable improvements in student outcomes.</p> </li><li> <p>Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with the ability to engage effectively with various stakeholders.</p> </li></ul> <p>Application Process:</p> <p>Interested candidates should submit a resume and cover letter detailing their experience and vision for the role of Assistant Superintendent for Academics & Instruction to superintendent@medford.k12.ma.us.</p> <p>Join us in our mission to provide an equitable and high-quality education for all students!
