<p>MAINTENANCE ELECTRICIAN</p> <p>61330</p> <p>(Non-Competitive)</p> <p>DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS</p> <p>The work involves responsibility for performing journey level electrician work including the planning and laying out of work and diagnosis of malfunctions in electrical systems or equipment. An employee in this class frequently directs the work of a small number of skilled, semi-skilled, and relatively unskilled workers assigned to electrical maintenance and repair. Employees in this class are supervised by higher level employees responsible for the work. The supervisors prescribe priorities as well as the nature and extent of work to be performed, and they provide diagrams and specifications as well as technical direction as needed. Employees in this class, in the absence of such direction, set priorities, determine work to be done, and lay out work with or without plans diagrams, and specification. The nature of the work assigned and the skill level of an employee in this class call for employees to work with considerable independence. The nature of the work may require employees in this class to operate motor vehicles and power driven equipment. Does related work as required.</p> <p>TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES</p> <p>Repairs, maintains and installs electrical systems and equipment, such as power distribution and auxiliary power distribution equipment, wiring switches, motors, controls, heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment and fixtures and lighting equipment.</p> <p>Plans and lays out work consistent with applicable standards and codes.</p> <p>Directs the work of a small number of skilled, semi-skilled, and relatively unskilled workers in installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment.</p> <p>Fulfills reporting requirements relating to work performed and material used.</p> <p>Recommends to supervisors changes designed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of operations.</p> <p>May act for supervisor in his/her absence.</p> <p>FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS</p> <p>Good knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and applicable codes and equipment used in installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment.</p> <p>Good knowledge of codes, practices, techniques and electrical theory associated with the electrical trade.</p> <p>Skill in the use of a variety of hand and powered tools and motorized equipment.</p> <p>Ability to plan and lay out electrical work.</p> <p>Ability to read and interpret plans, diagrams and specifications.</p> <p>Ability to use a variety of tools and test equipment used in electrical work.</p> <p>Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.</p> <p>Ability to perform moderate to heavy labor.</p> <p>As Assigned:</p> <p>Ability to operate a motor vehicle.</p> <p>When assigned to Onondaga Community College the incumbent is expected to operate a boom truck.</p> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>Four (4) years of work experience, or its part-time equivalent, in installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment which must have included laying out of work and diagnosis of malfunctions.</p> <p>NOTE: Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university, or its equivalent in technical or apprentice training, in electronic or electrical engineering technology or engineering or technical curriculum which related to electrical construction or maintenance or repair of electronic equipment may substitute for a maximum of two (2) years of work experience.</p> <p>SPECIAL REQUIREMENT</p> <p>Depending upon area of assignment, possession of a valid New York State CDL with appropriate endorsements for the class of vehicle being operated.</p> <p>10/94 REVISED</p>
