<p>Job Title: Embedded Software Engineer</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>We are seeking a talented Embedded Software Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing and developing software features to enhance existing and future products while resolving bugs and sustaining issues in legacy products. This role involves collaboration with various engineering teams to improve product performance and development processes.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Design and develop software features based on high-level customer and product line management requirements. </li><li>Develop new features for existing and future products. </li><li>Resolve bugs and other sustaining issues in legacy products. </li><li>Collaborate with validation, integration, optical, hardware, and test engineering teams to continuously improve product performance, execution efficiency, and development processes. </li><li>Ensure firmware documentation is accurate and up to date. </li><li>Coach junior software engineers and drive coding reviews and practices across the team. </li><li>Engage in pre- and post-sales customer interactions and provide guidance to Field Application Engineers. </li><li>Provide input to documentation teams. </li></ul> <p>Essential Skills</p> <ul> <li>Expert in C and C++ programming for embedded systems. </li><li>University degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science. </li><li>8+ years of experience in embedded software systems (flexible to 5+ years for strong candidates). </li><li>Experience in the Optical Networking industry (Layer 0/1 equipment) preferred. </li><li>Familiarity with Agile development, CI/CD, and DevOps practices. </li><li>Experience with system product software functions (e.g., North-Bound Interface, BSP, photonic control, alarms, service management). </li></ul> <p>Additional Skills & Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Experience with open-source code (SONiC, FRRouting, Open vSwitch) is a plus. </li><li>Familiarity with networking and security protocols. </li><li>Experience with virtualization and container technologies. </li><li>Programming skills in Go and Python. </li><li>Object-oriented design and Linux multi-process/threaded design. </li><li>Good communication skills and experience in cross-site/global teams (Chinese language a plus). </li></ul> <p>Work Environment</p> <p>The position offers a hybrid working environment with 2-3 days on-site and flexible arrangements possible.</p> <p>Job Type & Location</p> <p>This is a Permanent position based out of Horsham, PA.</p> <p>Pay and Benefits</p> <p>The pay range for this position is $120000.00 - $165000.00/yr.</p> <ul> <li>Candidates with 5-7 years of strong, directly relevant experience will be considered. </li><li>Telecom/optical networking background is preferred but not mandatory. </li><li>Role involves mentoring but not direct reports initially. </li><li>Compensation: Target base ~$160k + 15% bonus (business unit performance) + stock plan ($5-10k/year). </li><li>Hybrid work: 2-3 days on-site, more flexibility for software than firmware. </li><li>Interview: Panel round, possible follow-up with China team. </li></ul> <p>Workplace Type</p> <p>This is a hybrid position in Horsham,PA.</p> <p>Application Deadline</p> <p>This position is anticipated to close on Dec 16, 2025.</p> <p>About Actalent</p> <p>Actalent is a global leader in engineering and sciences services and talent solutions.
