<p>Posting closes on 5/21/2025</p> <p>Under minimum supervision, this position is responsible for determining load capacity ratings on all public bridges or for the design of complex bridges and structures to provide construction plans meeting state and federal requirements.</p> <p>Examples of Work</p> <p>The following examples are intended only as illustrations of various types of work performed. No attempt is made to be exhaustive. Related, similar, or other logical duties are performed as assigned. The Department may require employees to perform functions beyond those contained in job descriptions. The Department may modify job descriptions based on Department needs. The Arkansas Department of Transportation is an "at will" employer.</p> <ul> <li>Evaluate survey, soil and hydraulic data and conceive, design and evaluate various bridge types at any location, and recommend type or types for inclusion in the project plans. </li><li>Conceive and produce layouts, structural details and related technical drawings using computer-aided design and drafting (CADD). </li><li>Write specifications to cover construction methods and materials when required for a specific project. </li><li>Assemble design drawings, specifications and bid quantities, and make cost estimates for completed bridge projects. </li><li>Analyze bridge structures for load capacity. </li><li>Coordinate, supervise and check work of engineers and structural detailers. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Requirements</p> <p>Education and experience: Possession of a current Arkansas* license to practice professional engineering. Extensive experience in bridge structural analysis, design, and load capacity rating techniques.</p> <p>Knowledge, skills and abilities: Thorough knowledge of bridge structural analysis, design, and load capacity rating techniques or bridge design experience and thorough knowledge of the design and construction specifications and materials for all types of bridges commonly constructed by the Department. Ability to interpret and apply Department policies and procedures. Effective leadership and communication skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.</p> <p>Working conditions: Occasional in-state travel.</p> <p>Licenses, registrations and certifications: Valid driver's license.</p> <ul> <li>The Department will consider applicants with Professional Engineering licenses from other states, with the condition that a reciprocal Arkansas license be obtained within 180 days of hire. Failure to obtain the Arkansas license within this time period may result in immediate termination. Candidates are responsible for verifying eligibility for reciprocity with the Arkansas PE Board before accepting a position. </li></ul>
