<p>Job Description:</p> <p>Assistant Director of Finance</p> <p>Windsor Locks Public Schools</p> <p>Position Start Date: July 1, 2025</p> <p>Application Closing Date: Open until filled</p> <p>JOB SUMMARY:</p> <p>Under the supervision of the Superintendent of Schools and in harmony with the policies, rules, and regulations of the Board of Education, the Assistant Director has general charge of planning, organizing, coordinating, and directing the finance operations and services of the school system.</p> <p>The Assistant Director performs as financial assistant to the Superintendent of Schools. In this capacity, he/she assumes responsibility for the administrative direction, review, and coordination of services and functions, including, but not limited to, budget compilation</p> <p>The person who serves in this capacity develops and recommends programs, systems, and performance objectives for financial functions and provides assistance as needed to resolve problems which arise in order to attain immediate and long-range objectives.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</p> <ul> <li>FINANCIAL PLANNING </li><li>ACCOUNTING AND AUDITING </li><li>GRANTS MANAGEMENT </li><li>PURCHASING AND SUPPLY MANAGEMENT AND MATERIALS CONTROL: </li><li>Purchases by competitive bidding, informal quotations, and negotiations, items of supply and equipment necessary for the operation of the district. </li><li>Responsible for establishing procedures for the ongoing inventory of district supplies and equipment. </li><li>Processes invoices from data provided by the Director of Pupil Services for Special Education Tuitions and Related Services for students attending Windsor Locks Public Schools through the Open Choice program, and other out-of-district students (non-nexus), and track the collection of revenues and placement agreements. </li><li>PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT </li><li>OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: </li><li>Develops in accordance with policies established by the Board of Education an appropriate system, which provides for the compilation and appropriate dissemination of financial and statistical reports and other timely data on the fiscal operations and management of the school system. </li><li>Compiles and transmits in a timely manner required fiscal reports and data to appropriate local, state, and federal agencies. </li><li>Manages student injury and accident claims. </li><li>Manages the Student Activity Fund - monthly balancing of bank statements, ensures proper posting of transactions, works with school administrative assistants to maintain proper account balances. In addition, provides information and assistance to teachers, parents, and others as needed. </li><li>Manages the Food Services Fund - monthly balancing of bank statements, ensures proper posting of transactions by WLPS and the Food Service Contractor; ensures proper accounting and reporting of transactions. </li></ul> <p>SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <p>The Assistant Director supervises the Accounts Payable/Receivable and Payroll/Benefits Staff.</p> <p>QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. To perform this job successfully, an individual must:</p> <ul> <li>have exceptional organizational skills; </li><li>be computer proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook), as well as other programs as required </li><li>have great communication skills, </li><li>have basic accounting knowledge; knowledge of business practices </li><li>be proficient in the use of office machines, filing, and other office skills </li><li>be able to work as a member of the team </li><li>be courteous, must be cooperative, congenial, and service oriented </li><li>be able to create financial presentations, reports, analysis and convey content to a variety of audiences </li></ul> <p>Must have School Business Manager Certification (State of Connecticut 085) (may be pending)</p> <p>EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:</p> <p>Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or closely related field or other appropriate accounting experience.</p> <p>Experience with computer-based budget preparation and budget management.</p> <p>Proficiency in financial management systems, preferably municipal systems</p> <p>ANNUAL SALARY: $90,000 - $95,000 DOE</p>
