The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>As an Overnight Assignment Editor on the Network News Desk, you will work alongside a shift-based team to oversee domestic newsgathering needs for the News Group. You will work to provide editorial and logistical support to all platforms across broadcast, cable, digital, and streaming in the overnight hours and to prepare for morning shows.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Work with the senior to compile the Overnight editorial note for mass distribution to the News Group </li><li>Communicate with overnight teams (mainly Today Show, Morning News Now, Digital) to communicate/collaborate on breaking news </li><li>Know when to wake up leadership when news requires moving resources / possible special reports, etc. </li><li>Coordinate the gathering and feeding of news materials </li><li>Effectively research & implement coverage of breaking news & on-going stories </li><li>Ability to jump in & quickly assess what is needed on coverage of a breaking story </li><li>Collaborate with NBC News digital, streaming and broadcast platforms on newsgathering, social media initiatives and content distribution </li><li>Communicate with important groups such as Legal, Standards, R&C to make sure appropriate editorial/usage guidance and is obtained and disseminated to all platforms </li><li>Use data to inform and evolve newsgathering, storytelling and audience engagement </li><li>Initiate & maintain communication with affiliates & News Channel counterparts </li><li>Effective use & monitoring of social media sites & the web </li><li>Facilitate and manage requests from all platforms for field teams on assignment </li><li>Participate in daily network-wide conferences </li><li>Establish & maintain working story & contact files </li><li>Monitor competitive broadcasts, cable and digital platforms </li><li>Ability to put together a story coverage plan & layout with oversight from management </li><li>Work closely with Network, MSNBC & NBC News Now teams to accommodate their on-air needs (breaking news, correspondent requests, etc.) </li><li>Coordinate with technical and operations staff on resource management </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>At least 2 years editorial production experience at a network, cable or digital outlet </li><li>Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field, or equivalent work experience </li><li>Proficient on newsroom systems and all social media outlets </li><li>Solid working knowledge of TV production, affiliates & satellite operations </li><li>Strong news judgment & communication skills are essential </li><li>Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment & prioritize assignments </li><li>Must be willing and able to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays and overnights, under tight deadline pressure, occasionally with little or no warning </li><li>Must be a team player, collaboration is key </li><li>Demonstrates strong knowledge and interest in news & current events </li><li>Must be willing to work in New York, NY </li></ul> <p>Desired Characteristics:</p> <ul> <li>Ability to work independently </li><li>Strong research skills and editorial judgment </li><li>Ability to clearly communicate directives and status updates to both technical and non-technical resources </li><li>Experience in major market or network with big breaking news </li><li>Able to work both independently and as a member of a team </li><li>Capable of managing multiple deliverables and completing assigned tasks quickly </li><li>Passion for news and an interest in multiple platforms (broadcast, cable, web, mobile) </li><li>Innovative and flexible thinker, comfortable suggesting solutions </li><li>Committed to quality in every assignment, large or small </li><li>Enjoy working in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines </li><li>Strong interpersonal skills </li><li>Fluency in another language not required, but a plus </li></ul> <p>Additional Requirements:</p> <p>Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.</p> <p>This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks.
