Groundskeepers play an important part by providing faculty, staff and students with a safe and visually pleasing environment in which to learn and work.</p> <p>Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities</p> <p>The Groundskeeper job responsibilities include operating snow removal and mowing equipment; removing and disposing of trash, debris, and litter; raking and disposing of leaves; servicing and preparing vehicles daily; trimming/pruning trees, shrubs, and plants; and assisting in the office area as needed.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <p>Competencies and Personal Attributes</p> <p>A High School diploma or equivalent and a valid Michigan driver's license is required.</p> <ul> <li>One year of experience in grounds maintenance </li><li>Knowledge of tree and shrub pruning and trimming </li><li>Knowledge of proper mowing and snow removal equipment </li><li>Skill in operating mowing and snow removal equipment </li><li>Ability to lift and carry heavy objects </li></ul> <p>Candidate must obtain a pesticide applicator license within the first year of full-time employment.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications and Experience: Physical Demands:</p> <p>Extensive walking, bending, stooping, climbing, physical and manual dexterity in operating grounds equipment and machinery.</p> <p>Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.</p> <p>Ability to withstand working in all weather conditions.</p> <p>Work Hours: 40 hours per week; 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Hours may be adjusted depending on weather conditions, especially in winter to allow for snow removal.
