POSITION SUMMARY Performs diagnostic imaging and related procedures to demonstrate anatomy for interpretation and/or intervention for cardiovascular procedures ABOUT DPH CATH LAB The Dr. P Phillips Cardiac Cath Lab is located on the 2nd floor of the hospital, next to PACU. The Cath Lab has four (4) Cardiac Cath Lab suites; Lab 1, 2, 3, 4. Lab 1 is mostly utilized for Interventional Radiology, some Heart Catheterizations, and vascular studies. Lab 2 is utilized for most of the procedures performed in the Cath Lab; Electrophysiology, Heart Catheterizations, Interventional Radiology and Peripheral cases. Lab 3 and 4 are our STEMI/multipurpose labs that can be utilized for all service line procedures including and dedicated for Ablations and Electrophysiology Studies. The Cath Lab has a pre/post procedural area with seven bays dedicated to monitored stretchers and fours bays dedicated to the Radial Lounge with four monitored recliners. The pre/post procedural area is hard wired for monitoring hemodynamics of our patients. Responsibilities Essential Functions • Provides direct patient care. • Delivers advanced patient care and demonstrates competency while recognizing patient conditions, age specific needs while ensuring successful completion of procedures and protocols. • Serves as a preceptor and/or charge when there are department's needs. • Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in use of Bloom stimulator and physician electrophysiology protocols. • Evaluates and independently resolves equipment problems, notifies Biomed and/or equipment company as appropriate to resolve the problem and report the issue to the supervisor. • Ensures the patient's understanding of procedure performed, provides patient and family education while ensuring the patient's needs, safety, and comfort are met while in the electrophysiology Lab. • Acquires patient's clinical history and assures that the information is accurately documented. Verifies report and records for completeness and accuracy of the patient involved in the study. Archives and amends demographic information to appropriate storage media. • Positions patient, equipment, associated devices and manipulates technical factors to achieve high quality Images and signals for interpretation. • Assesses processed images for technical quality and patient identification, ensuring that all relative anatomy is demonstrated. • Applies principals of radiation safety and protection to minimize exposure to the patient, self, and others. • Provides physiological and hemodynamic monitoring during diagnostic and interventional procedures. • Supports the physician as a scrub assistant. • Demonstrates knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques. • Documents patient care as related to a procedural area in a knowledgeable, skillful, and consistent manner meeting all required and regulatory standards. Communicates any changes as necessary. This includes but not limited to patient assessment, education, medication administration, treatments and patient safety. • Demonstrates competency to evaluate and obtain hemostasis of a vessel post procedure. • Maintains use of customer service skills in communication with all staff, visitors, patients, and co-workers. • Performs all duties as necessary to assure patient satisfaction. • Ensures case turnover time to be within established department standards by maintaining proper workflow and prioritizing patient care. • Must be able to a superuser in 3 clinical systems or technologies. • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards. • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures. Qualifications Education/Training One of the following criteria must be met: CVT-RICS or RCES: High School Diploma or GED RRT or CRT: Associate degree from an accredited respiratory therapy education program. R.T.(R): Completion of an accredited radiography program. Paramedic-NREMT-P: Completion of an accredited paramedic education program. Licensure/Certification Maintains current BLS and ACLS certification. Must have one of the following: Valid Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES); or Cardiovascular Intervention (CI) certification; or A Bachelor's degree in healthcare or science related; or Four (4) years of experience (in addition to the experience listed under the Experience section, totaling 7 years). Must possess and maintain one of the following: Cardiovascular Technologist (CVT)- Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) certification or Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) certification. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)- Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). Licensed for the state where they are employed. Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT)- Certified by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). Licensed for the state where they are employed. Registered Radiologic Technologist (R.T.(R))-Valid American registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification. Licensed for the state where they are employed. Paramedic- National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians-Paramedic (NREMT-P) certification and Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) certification or Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) certification. Experience Three (3) years hospital experience in the Electrophysiology Lab required.
