<p>Job Description:</p> <p>POSITION TITLE: Laboratory Technician II - Nursing (part-time)</p> <p>DEPARTMENT: Health Sciences and Nursing</p> <p>PRIMARY LOCATION: Fall River; other Bristol locations (Taunton, New Bedford, Attleboro) on a rotational basis</p> <p>REPORTS TO: Dean, Health Professions or designee</p> <p>JOB DETAILS: This is a part-time position without benefits not to exceed 18.5 hours per week.</p> <p>SALARY: $30.83/hr</p> <p>Position Summary:</p> <p>The Laboratory Tech II: Nursing Lab Support Specialist has the primary responsibility of organizing learning experiences in the nursing skills labs on campus, including Fall River and New Bedford. This position involves collaboration with all nursing faculty that teach courses requiring practice in the skills lab.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>The following are the functions essential to performing this job: </li><li>Assist nursing faculty to implement the skills laboratory curriculum. This includes the use of a variety of patient care equipment and supplies, use of computer based instruction tools and programs; </li><li>Ensure the availability of properly functioning equipment and supplies; </li><li>Assist with and set up skills labs, practice sessions, and on-campus labs offered as assigned; </li><li>Provide supervision relative to the use of laboratory equipment and nursing practice and procedures; </li><li>Monitor inventory of all laboratory supplies and equipment in the skills lab and notify the Director of Nursing, or designee, and the area Administrative Assistant when supplies are low; </li><li>Coordinate and proctor practice sessions for all nursing students; </li><li>Assist with simulation activities in the Nursing Simulation Lab with low and high fidelity manikins, as assigned (education and training will be provided); </li><li>Perform administrative and record-keeping duties as assigned. </li><li>Other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Requirements:</p> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, technical or professional experience in laboratory work in a recognized clinical, medical, hospital, chemical, water quality, public health, biological, bacteriological, marine sciences or materials testing laboratory, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.</p> <p>Substitutions:</p> <p>I. An Associate's degree or higher with a major in medical technology chemistry, bacteriology, food science and technology, environmental science, chemical or environmental engineering, wastewater technology, oceanography or the biological sciences may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.</p> <p>II. The successful completion of one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, education toward a degree at a recognized medical or dental school may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.</p> <p>III. The successful completion of training in a recognized school or hospital course, or an American Medical Association (AMA) approved training program for laboratory technicians or medical technologists may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.</p> <p>IV. Registration as a medical technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, the International Society for Clinical Laboratory Technicians or American Medical Technologists or as a bacteriologist by the National Registry of Microbiologists may be substituted for the required experience.</p> <p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor degree in Nursing </li><li>Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse licensure, or ability to have in hand by date of employment. </li><li>Demonstration of active clinical practice and experience in the past 5 years. </li><li>One year experience in a Nursing Skills Laboratory or teaching in a clinical setting. </li><li>One year experience in a student-centered environment. </li><li>Experience working with faculty or administrators relative to students' needs. </li><li>Experience with simulation activities in a simulation lab. </li><li>Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. </li></ul> <p>Additional Information:</p> <p>Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action:</p> <p>Bristol Community College is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, religion, age, veteran or military status, genetic information, gender identity, or sexual orientation in its programs and activities as required by Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and other applicable statutes and college policies.
