This position also performs routine delegated healthcare tasks for students and assists in the school health office, as delegated and trained by the school nurse and/or Director of Health Services. This is a one-to-one health aide position.</p> <p>Supervision Received: Receives direct supervision from the Director of Health Services, in collaboration with the school nurse and building principal.</p> <p>Hourly Rate: $23.96 per bargaining unit contract</p> <p>Schedule: Full Time; 10-month</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Administer first aid and emergency procedures, as directed by the school nurse and according to BPS district policy </li><li>Administer care to the sick and injured in the nurse's absence, including administration of medication according to BPS district policy and CT State Nurse Practice Act </li><li>Perform required tasks in the routine maintenance of school health records on individual students including; school health office visits, physical exams and immunization data entry into the electronic health record </li><li>Assist the school nurse with mandated screenings and follow up referrals </li><li>Participate in Health Services staff development as designated by the Director of Health Services </li><li>If assigned to work one-on-one with a student with medical needs, the Director of Health Services will provide individualized training to the health aide regarding emergency medication administration and supporting the student's activities of daily living </li><li>Temporary coverage of the school nursing office, as needed </li><li>Other duties, as assigned </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Proficient computer skills in word processing, email, and data entry </li><li>Experience working with school aged children is preferred </li><li>Basic verbal, written and nonverbal communication skills </li></ul> <p>Education & Experience:</p> <ul> <li>High School Diploma or GED </li><li>Current CPR/AED/First Aid, or EMT Certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire) </li><li>Certified Nursing or Medical Assistants preferred </li><li>Experience working with children and/or individuals with medical needs preferred </li><li>Bilingual preferred </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands/Work Environment:</p> <p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, kneel/squat, bend/stoop, pushing, pulling, and twisting. Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may require regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and position of students with physical disabilities; controlling behavior through physical restraint, assisting non-ambulatory students. The employee will have access to use of standard medical clinic equipment including automated external defibrillator (AED); special needs adaptive equipment; standard office equipment including computer and peripherals. There is a chance of exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases. And the employee must be able to work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.</p> <p>Note: The above description is illustrative of tasks and responsibilities.
