The College of the Sciences and Mathematics invites applicants for the position of Associate Dean, College of the Sciences and Mathematics. Only applications from current employees of Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) universities will be considered. </p> <p>The College of the Sciences and Mathematics at West Chester University includes the following departments: Anthropology and Sociology, Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth and Space Sciences, Mathematics, Political Science, Physics and Engineering, and Psychology. The mission of the College of the Sciences and Mathematics (CSM) prepares the students of West Chester University to be informed citizens and successful professionals, through our academic programs and co-curricular experiences in the computational, mathematical, natural, and social sciences, as well as engineering. The faculty members serve as both instructors and researchers. Learn more about the College of the Sciences and Mathematics. </p> <p>Reporting directly to the Dean, the Associate Dean is a key member of the leadership team of the College of the Sciences and Mathematics. The Associate Dean works closely with University senior management, develops and maintains collaborative relationships with internal & external constituents, and stands in for the Dean as needed. Working collaboratively with other members of the Dean's staff, the Associate Dean supports faculty, departments, and programs in developing and implementing effective student learning assessment plans that ensure desired student learning outcomes, alignment with specialized accreditation, as well as appropriate instructional reporting. The Associate Dean provides internal college oversight on the internal grant process. The Associate Dean assists in matters related to departmental scheduling, workload, and budgets and personnel management in adherence of policies, procedures, and guidelines established by the Dean.</p> <p>The ideal candidate is familiar with learning and operational trends in higher education in general. The candidate will demonstrate the ability to develop and communicate the vision, mission, and goals of the College. This individual will also mentor and develop professional staff and team members while providing support to faculty and departments. The individual will develop and maintain collaborative relationships with University partners and external entities in pursuant of the College's goals and objectives. </p> <p>Responsibilities include:</p> <ul> <li>Direct oversight and support to CSM faculty, departments, and programs in developing and implementing student learning assessment plans that ensure desired student learning outcomes, alignment with specialized accreditation, as well as appropriate institutional reporting (i.e., system program review) </li><li>Direct oversight of temporary faculty evaluation processes </li><li>Manage student support services and student complaint processes that arise to the Dean's office </li><li>Work collaboratively with other members of the Dean's staff to oversee and administer internal CSM grant programs that support faculty development and strategic goals </li><li>Work with the Dean's office, departments, and other units as appropriate on University and College events, including Commencement and CSM Poster Sessions </li><li>Provide support to CSM faculty, departments, and programs as they address pedagogical, curricular, and programmatic issues, particularly through the university-wide curriculum review process. Work collaboratively with other entities on campus that support these matters </li><li>Assist faculty in their efforts to obtain resources in support of their scholarly and creative work. Mentor and support CSM faculty in their development as teacher-scholars </li><li>Assist the Dean in matters related to departmental scheduling, workload, budgets, and personnel, implementing the policies, procedures, and guidelines established by the Dean </li><li>Assist the Dean with college level strategic planning, specialized accreditation and reporting of progress on college and institutional goals </li><li>Assist the Dean with conducting faculty and staff searches in a manner that supports the institution's commitment to access and belonging </li><li>Demonstrate a commitment to the university's diversity initiatives by fostering a climate that values civility and inclusion within the college </li><li>Participate in institutional meetings as necessary in consultation with the Dean </li><li>Maintain current knowledge of the collective bargaining agreements for faculty and staff within the institution </li><li>An earned doctorate from a regionally-accredited institution in a discipline appropriate to the College of the Sciences and Mathematics </li><li>Experience with program development and assessment </li><li>Demonstrated experience providing faculty support and professional development </li><li>Demonstrated experience providing student support and development. This includes addressing student issues such as general complaints, academic integrity violations, grade appeals, etc </li><li>Demonstrated knowledge of the differing disciplinary and curricular needs of the programs and disciplines within CSM </li><li>Experience handling complex and multiple tasks with competing priorities and/or work deadlines </li><li>Ability to effectively communicate in writing and verbally and present dynamically to a variety of constituents </li><li>Administrative experience at the level of Associate Dean, Department Chairperson, Assistant Chairperson, Program Director, and/or other significant college or university leadership position, and/or </li><li>Substantive experience in university-wide service or leadership, and/or </li><li>Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and foster a team environment, and/or </li><li>Experience with initiating and administering grants and partnerships, and/or </li><li>Experience supervising staff, and/or </li><li>Experience in strategic planning and specialized accreditation </li></ul> <p>There is the possibility of working remote occasionally.</p> <p>Starting salary is commensurate with experience.
