Staff members focus on evidence-based best practices in the public health and environmental fields and play a critical role in educating people in Colorado so they can make informed choices. In addition to maintaining and enhancing our core programs, the department continues to identify and respond to emerging issues affecting Colorado's public and environmental health.</p> <p>The Division of Disease Control and Public Health Response exists to ensure that the Department has the ability to effectively monitor, detect, diagnose, prepare for, and nimbly respond to, all types of conditions and events that</p> <p>impact the public's health</p> <p>What You Will Be Doing:</p> <p>This position serves as a senior authority for the Data Lakehouse environment. This includes supporting integration into the DLH, for example, the integration of the Epitrax case investigation and contact tracing system within the Data Lakehouse environment. This position improves the efficiency and effectiveness of public health data operations within the Disease Control and Public Health Response (DCPHR) Division by analyzing existing workflows, identifying inefficiencies, and independently developing and implementing improved technical solutions. As a key technology and data resource, this position ensures that public health information systems-especially those supporting disease surveillance, outbreak response, and emergency preparedness-are reliable, secure, and aligned with evolving program needs. The position enables timely access to accurate and actionable health data by maintaining high standards for data quality, user support, and system functionality. This position plays a critical part in modernizing Colorado's disease surveillance infrastructure and advancing the use of high-quality data to inform public health interventions statewide.</p> <p>Residency Requirement:</p> <p>This posting is only open to residents of the State of Colorado at the time of submitting your application. </p> <p>Class Code & Classification Description: </p> <p>H1D5XXData Management V</p> <p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <p>An applicant may meet the minimum qualifications for this job in one of two ways: They may qualify through their work experience alone or through a combination of education and work experience.</p> <p>Experience Only:</p> <p>Eight (8) years of professional experience in data management, analyzing and cleaning data, or an occupational field closely related to the work assigned to the position.</p> <p>OR</p> <p>Education and Experience:</p> <p>A combination of related education, graduation from an accredited college or university in Business, Computer Science, Data Management or a field of study closely related to the work assignment and professional experience in data management, analyzing and cleaning data, or an occupational field closely related to the work assigned to the position equal to Eight (8) years.</p> <p>This experience must be substantiated within the Work Experience section of your application. A copy of your transcript must be submitted at the time of application (Unofficial transcripts are acceptable.)</p> <p>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS</p> <p>In addition to the minimum requirements, the successful candidate in this position will have the following experience:</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrated experience designing, managing, or optimizing enterprise-level data systems, data warehouses, or data lakehouse environments. </li><li>Proven expertise in database management and optimization, including SQL performance tuning, indexing, and schema design. </li><li>Hands-on experience with data ingestion, ETL/ELT processes, and integration of data from multiple complex sources. </li><li>Knowledge of public health data systems, disease surveillance platforms, or other large-scale data environments supporting regulated data. </li><li>Proficiency in implementing and maintaining data governance, security, and privacy practices (e.g., HIPAA, role-based access control). </li><li>Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including program, technical, and vendor stakeholders, to deliver data-driven solutions. </li><li>Strong problem-solving skills with a track record of troubleshooting complex data or system issues. </li><li>Ability to translate technical concepts into actionable recommendations for non-technical stakeholders. </li></ul> <p>CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT</p> <ul> <li>Pursuant to CDPHE policy, a background check is required for all positions at CDPHE. </li></ul> <p>Appeal Rights: </p> <p>If you receive notice that you have been eliminated from consideration for this position, you may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board or request a review by the State Personnel Director.
