Obtains permits and performs all aspects of electrical work as required by law.Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <p>Inspects and evaluates electrical equipment to ensure that it operates efficiently and safely; determines whether equipment and new installations meet requirements of the National Electrical Code. Develops plans and estimates for electrical projects; including determining labor, equipment, and human and material resources needed to complete the work. Perform new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring consistent with specifications of state and local electrical codes. Prepare sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or follows diagrams or electrical drawings, ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings, and flooring. Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assemble, and installs electrical conduit; and pulls wiring through conduit. Prepare estimates for supplies and materials related to instructional equipment and devices and other departmental equipment purchases. Prepare written reports on ongoing projects and on the condition of equipment. Develop and maintain preventative maintenance program for all electrical equipment and devices including transformers and switchgears. Connect wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment. Install control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, contactors, and circuit- breaker panels. Connects power cables to equipment, such as electric devices and motors, and installs grounding leads. Coordinate the work of journeyperson electricians or other staff, as may be assigned. Tests installations to check and ensure continuity of the circuit, and the compatibility and safety of all components using test equipment such as an amp meter, voltmeter, oscilloscope, or other related test equipment. Observe functioning of installed equipment or systems to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement. Repair and maintain faulty electrical equipment or systems. Responsible for the installation of new and replacement electrical equipment. Provide complete electrical installations for minor construction and renovation projects. Responsible for ordering and maintaining all electrical supplies and equipment. Responsible for maintaining inventory of all electrical supplies and equipment. Regular attendance on campus is required for this position. Other duties as assigned. Hours/Schedule:This position will work 40 hours per week. Schedule dependent on college need, so must have the ability to accept temporary shift changes with minimum notice.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED. At least ten (10) years demonstrated experience as a licensed journey person electrician. Possess and maintain a valid Master Electrician's license pursuant to the Michigan Electrical Administration Act of 1956 as amended. Satisfactory completion of an approved electrician's apprenticeship program such as the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, or approved equal. Possess and maintain a valid Driver's License with safe driving record. Minimal ability to use a micro-computer and knowledge of basic spreadsheets, databases, and word processing application software. Demonstrated writing and reading skills; including blueprint reading. Ability to travel from building to building and floor to floor in multiple level buildings and concealed spaces. Ability to work in inclement weather as needed. Ability to distinguish colors within the visible light spectrum. Ability to climb a ladder to a minimum height of 20 feet. Ability to lift objects up to 60 pounds in weight, unassisted, to a height of at least three feet above floor level.
