<p>Reports To: BRONX LEAP Program Director</p> <p>Location: Creston Campus 125 E 181st Street, Bronx NY</p> <p>Hours: 8 - 10 hours / week; Non Exempt, September - June</p> <p>Schedule: Program Hours are Monday - Friday, 2pm - 6pm</p> <p>Salary: $19 / HR - $25</p> <p>Job Summary: The Dance Instructor is responsible for leading dynamic, age-appropriate dance classes in a range of styles includingbut not limited toballet, salsa, tap, ballroom, hip hop, and other forms of dance. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both dancing and teaching, with proven choreography skills and a passion for working with children. They should be able to create an inclusive, supportive, and engaging classroom environment that encourages creativity, movement, and collaboration. The instructor will play a key role in helping students grow artistically, physically, and socially through dance.</p> <p>Major Duties:</p> <ul> <li>Lead fun, structured, and age-appropriate dance classes that encourage creativity, skill-building, and teamwork. </li><li>Follow and adapt a sequenced dance curriculum to meet student needs and interests. </li><li>Submit lesson and unit plans ahead of time for review. </li><li>Incorporate literacy, cultural history, and academic themes into dance activities when possible. </li><li>Plan and produce a culminating performance or project at the end of each session. </li><li>Work closely with the Program Director to ensure classes align with program goals and support student growth. </li><li>Collaborate with group leaders and program aides by assigning roles and guiding classroom support. </li><li>Provide feedback to support staff on how to help students improve between classes. </li><li>Manage setup, cleanup, and storage of dance materials and equipment. </li><li>Attend staff meetings and required trainings. </li><li>Create a positive, respectful, and engaging environment for all participants. </li><li>Take initiative, think creatively, and bring energy and imagination to your work. </li><li>Perform other related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Must be at least 18 years old. </li><li>High School Diploma or GED required. </li><li>Experience and/or training relevant to the position required. </li><li>Candidates with some college, experience with adolescents and teaching/coaching youth are encouraged to apply. </li><li>Flexibility, creativity, and enthusiasm for young people </li><li>Excellent planning, organization and time management skills </li><li>Ability to engage youth, while setting structure and limits in a group setting. </li><li>Energetic, motivated self-starter and a team player </li><li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills. </li><li>Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based, youth and family development and trauma-informed perspective. </li></ul>
