Therefore, you may be required to provide information about your criminal history in order to be considered for this position.</p> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited technical institute or vocational school with a degree in fire protection engineering technology, fire science, engineering technology, construction management, or related acceptable field and experience equivalent to one year of responsible full-time fire prevention, safety inspection, or technical plans review work.</p> <p>Substitution of Education for Experience: Additional coursework at an accredited college or university in fire prevention or fire science may be substituted for the required experience, on a year-for-year basis.</p> <p>Substitution of Experience for Education: Qualifying full-time experience in one of the above areas may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.</p> <p>Necessary Special Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>A valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required for employment in some positions. </li><li>Professional Safety Certifications may be required for employment in some positions. </li></ul> <p>Examination Method: Education and Experience,100%, for Preferred Service positions.</p> <p>Overview</p> <p>Under general supervision, is responsible for facilities safety work of average difficulty; and performs related work as required. This is the working class in the Facilities Safety Officer sub-series. An employee in this class is responsible for conducting fire safety inspections of new and existing buildings, flammable liquids and explosive storage facilities and delivery vehicles. Work involves enforcing fire and life safety code requirements, as set forth by departmental policies and procedures. This class differs from that of Facilities Safety Officer 1, in that an incumbent of the latter functions at the entry level. This class differs from that of Facilities Safety Officer 3 in that an incumbent of the latter is responsible for facilities safety lead work or work at the largest institutions.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Conducts facility fire and safety inspections in compliance with codes, policies, and procedures. Explains and interprets fire and safety codes and standards to staff and management and executes follow-up on recommendations for corrective actions based on inspection reports. </li><li>Schedules and coordinates inspections with the Fire Marshal or other inspecting authorities.
