<p>Performs a variety of duties pertaining to the investigation and mitigation of minor motor vehicle collisions, policing parking within City limits, and providing additional support to law enforcement officers by performing the following duties. </p> <p>include the following. The list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Other duties may be assigned. Under no circumstance shall the Traffic Safety Coordinator perform the duties, or be asked to perform the duties, of a commissioned law enforcement officer. Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position. </p> <p>Traffic Control/Accidents: Responds to traffic accidents; interviews victims and other involved in traffic accident scene; collects traffic evidence; completes accident report; initiates proper assistance such as wreckers, ambulances, fire department, and law enforcement; provides traffic direction and control at accident scenes, road closures, inoperative traffic control devices and other situations that necessitate manual traffic direction; moves and sets up traffic cones and barricades to control crowds and traffic at hazard and/or collision scenes; reports hazardous roadway conditions and defective traffic control equipment to proper departments. </p> <p>Issues Parking Citations: Issues citations for the following parking violations: handicap, restricted parking (yellow curb), fire lanes, permit parking, schools - loading unloading in restricted zones, no parking permits in residential areas. </p> <p>Assists with Child Safety Seats: assists citizens with obtaining and installing the proper child safety seat for the Childs age and size; assists with community events to promote child safety seats and the laws requiring their use. </p> <p>Abandoned or Towed Vehicles: Manages documentation regarding abandoned or towed vehicles within the city limits of North Little Rock; provides information to the public regarding parking regulations, traffic accident regulations, and advises of rights for abandoned vehicles and towed vehicles; manages complaints regarding abandoned vehicles and/or illegally parked vehicles; aids in the removal of abandoned vehicles that obstruct the roadway. </p> <p>Assists Motorists: Provides assistance to disabled motorists. </p> <p>Assists Law Enforcement Officers: Reports the location and nature of crimes in progress to the communications center without becoming personally involved; enters and retrieves data to locate information on wanted subjects and to check license plates or driver's license information; testifies in court regarding traffic and/or parking citations or as a witness; perform various administrative support duties; maintain assigned vehicle and equipment. </p> <p>To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.</p> <p>High School Diploma and two years of experience as a certified law enforcement officer or as a traffic accident investigator performing similar duties. </p> <p>Must possess citation authority certification within six (6) months of employment and maintain certification while employed in this position; must meet the specific requirements established by the State Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training and maintain certification while employed in this position.</p> <p>Must possess "Child Passenger Safety Technician" certification or be able to obtain certification within six (6) months of hire.</p> <p>A Class D driver's license and good driving record are required and must be maintained throughout employment.</p> <p>The complexity, guidelines, supervisory controls, and supervision responsibilities described below are representative of this position. </p> <p>SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:</p> <p>The supervisor sets the overall objectives and resources available. The employee and supervisor, in consultation, develop the deadlines, projects, and work to be done. The employee is responsible for planning and carrying out the assignment; resolving most of the conflicts which arise; coordinating the work with others as necessary; and interpreting policy on own initiative in terms of established objectives. The employee may also determine the approach to be taken and the methodology to be used. The employee keeps the supervisor informed of progress, potentially controversial matters, or far-reaching implications. Completed work is reviewed only from an overall standpoint in terms of feasibility, compatibility with other work, or effectiveness in meeting requirements or expected results. </p> <p>SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:</p> <p>None </p> <p>COMPLEXITY:</p> <p>The work typically includes varied duties requiring many different and unrelated processes and methods such as those relating to well-established aspects of an administrative or professional field; decisions regarding what needs to be done include the assessment of unusual circumstances, variations in approach, and incomplete or conflicting data; the work requires making many decisions concerning such things as the interpreting of considerable data, planning of the work, or refining the method and techniques to be used.</p> <p>GUIDELINES:</p> <p>Guidelines are broad and nonspecific; judgment and ingenuity are necessary. The employee must define the problem, collect data, establish criteria, and draw conclusions. The employee may have to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions. The employee often must originate new techniques or develop new information. Many of the employee's decisions affect persons or situation beyond the scope of his/her job.</p>
