<p>Description</p> <p>Job Title: Community Walking Coordinator</p> <p>Organization: Oregon Walks</p> <p>Location: Portland, Oregon. Work-from-home role with in-person programming across the Portland Metro area. Must live in the region with reliable transportation.</p> <p>Time: Full-time position. Founded in 1991, we have a long history of successful advocacy with committed partners. We believe walking & rolling improve individual well-being, builds community, and creates healthier neighborhoods. Oregon Walks leads a growing Walking School Bus (WSB) initiative plus organizes and hosts community walking events. Video about our Walking School Bus program here.</p> <p>Position Summary: We are growing our team with a role that will wear multiple hats. This position primarily will work in support of our Walking School Bus initiative across the Portland Metro region and in organizing and hosting community walking events.</p> <p>This position will be responsible for supporting our WSB Project Manager by training, supporting, and growing a network of community leaders who organize and lead daily walking routes for kids to walk & roll to and from school. In addition, this person will be part of planning and executing community walks and events ranging from small group gatherings to larger neighborhood walks of up to 50 people.</p> <p>This is a highly people-facing role-the right person is warm and energizing-and is someone people want to walk alongside. The role will also be fluid with no two weeks the same. You may lean heavy into leader training and one-on-one check-ins one week and event logistics, partner meetings, or community walks the next. We're looking for someone who thrives on variety and doing so with joy!</p> <p>We're a small team, so everyone wears many hats: pitching in on social media, advocacy, and administrative tasks as needed. We're looking for someone who enjoys a varied, dynamic, and community-facing position.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Walking School Bus Leader Support & Training </li><li>Work with our Walking School Bus Manager to recruit, train, and support WSB leaders </li><li>Develop/deliver trainings to ensure leaders feel confident, prepared, and connected </li><li>Community Walks & Event Planning </li><li>Plan, organize, and host community walks ranging from 10 to 50 participants </li><li>Manage logistical aspects of events: route planning, coordination, promotion/social media, safety protocols, volunteer support, and participant recruitment/communication </li><li>Partner with community members, electeds, organizations, and local agencies to expand the reach of walking programs </li><li>Group Facilitation & Public Speaking </li><li>Facilitate small-to-medium group meetings with WSB leaders </li><li>Speak publicly at events in a way that's warm, engaging, and accessible </li><li>Community Engagement & Outreach </li><li>Build and sustain relationships with schools, parents, and partner organizations </li><li>Represent Oregon Walks at community events and tabling opportunities </li><li>Program Tracking & Reporting </li><li>Maintain accurate records of WSB participation, engagement, and event outcomes </li><li>Contribute to reports for organizational leadership, funders, and stakeholders </li></ul> <p>What we are looking for:</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrated experience planning and organizing events for groups of 5-50 people </li><li>Engaging public speaking and group facilitation skills, comfortable with both small and medium-sized audiences </li><li>A magnetic, fun, warm presence! We're looking for someone people want to be around </li><li>Ability to outreach in multiple cultural contexts. Multilingual skills a plus </li><li>Ability to take initiative and work independently </li><li>Flexibility in both schedule and personality, including occasional evenings and weekends </li><li>Passion for walking and pedestrian-friendly communities </li><li>Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience </li><li>Experience working with schools, families, youth, and/or volunteers </li></ul> <p>Compensation:</p> <ul> <li>$55,000 - $62,500 annual salary </li><li>Health and dental benefits </li><li>36 days of paid time off + 11 paid holidays </li><li>Retirement plan (SIMPLE IRA) with a 3% match by Oregon Walks </li><li>Monthly transportation and technology stipends </li><li>Knowing your work creates healthier, happier, more connected communities </li></ul> <p>How to Apply:</p> <p>Interested candidates are invited to submit a resume and cover letter to info@oregonwalks.org with the subject line "Job Application."
