<p>Job Summary:</p> <p>Assists the provider with examinations, treatment and special procedures. Assists providers and other allied health personnel as directed by established policies and procedures.</p> <p>Essential Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Upholds Kaiser Permanentes Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local laws. </li><li>Assists physician with therapeutic and diagnostic patient care functions which may require sterile technique, enemas, removal or application of dressings (sterile or non- sterile), application of splints, cleansing, irrigating or prepping a wound or area for procedure. </li><li>Explains standard self-care procedures as directed by the provider. </li><li>Provides assistance in the exam room which is not limited to the following: </li><li>Positioning and draping the patient, assisting with minor surgical procedures by passing instruments in a sterile manner. </li><li>Assists the provider with therapeutic and diagnostic procedures such as sigmoidoscopy, cystoscopy, biopsy, lumbar puncture, paracentesis, thoracentesis, and other procedures; under the direct supervision of the provider. </li><li>Completes necessary arrangements/organization of the treatment room prior to performing the procedure. </li><li>Signing the consent form, set-up of the proper equipment for the procedure, and proper BSI precautions in cleaning and maintaining the instrument(s) used in the procedure. </li><li>Carries out physicians orders as directed by the provider, and initials all diagnostic test forms, lab slips. </li><li>Screens incoming calls taking appropriate action, relaying the information to not only the provider but also the answer, when directed by the provider, back to the member. </li><li>Charts and initials such action in the OMR. </li><li>Performs a variety of lab tests using the dip-stix method such as urine tests, pregnancy tests, and others as directed. </li><li>Prepares and delivers instruments for Central Service processing. </li><li>Utilizes effective communication and interpersonal relationship skills when interacting with other members of the health team or patients. </li><li>Displays tact and courteous behavior when working with staff and patients. </li><li>Actively participates in education programs and staff meetings that are scheduled by the department. </li><li>Maintains a clean work place. </li><li>Adheres to all Medical Center policies and procedures. </li><li>Participates and responds, when assigned, to Code Blue emergencies. </li><li>Promotes, ensures, and improves customer service to internal/external customers by demonstrating skills which are consistent with the organizations philosophy of providing extraordinary customer relations and quality service. </li></ul>
