<p>Summary:</p> <p>We are seeking a visionary and technically accomplished Research Technology Specialist to lead transformative research initiatives at the intersection of data science, surgery, and machine learning. This role is ideal for a seasoned healthcare data scientist with a proven track record in machine learning, causal inference, and large-scale claims data analysis, who thrives in academic, policy, and collaborative environments.</p> <p>Key Responsibilities:</p> <p>Strategic Leadership & Vision</p> <ul> <li>Collaborate with teams (faculty, residents, students) in designing and executing data-driven surgery outcome research. </li><li>Develop strategic roadmaps for AI/ML applications in health economics, payment reform, and care delivery models. </li><li>Translate complex data into actionable outcomes for clinical researchers </li></ul> <p>Advanced Analytics & Modeling</p> <ul> <li>Apply supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques, survival analysis, and causal inference to healthcare datasets. </li><li>Become a leader in the use of machine learning in Surgery </li></ul> <p>Data Engineering & Infrastructure</p> <ul> <li>Architect robust data pipelines integrating Medicare, commercial claims, and hospital discharge datasets. </li><li>Ensure compliance with HIPAA, DUAs, and institutional governance standards. </li><li>Maintain reproducible research environments using GitHub, and endure data is always secure (utilize Brown University Health IT policies) </li></ul> <p>Policy Impact & Publications</p> <ul> <li>Author peer-reviewed studies and policy briefs on surgery outcomes </li><li>Present findings at national conferences and contribute to legislative advocacy through data-backed recommendations. </li></ul> <p>Mentorship & Education</p> <ul> <li>Design and teach members of the department of surgery in healthcare data science, visualization, and AI ethics. </li><li>Mentor junior analysts, students, and fellows in research design, coding, and publication development. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>M.Sc. in Analytics, Data Science, or related field </li><li>5+ years of experience in healthcare data science </li><li>Expertise in languages such as R, Python, SQL, SAS, STATA; </li><li>Deep familiarity with CMS, HCUP, HCCI, NSQIP, and other healthcare datasets. </li><li>Strong publication record in top-tier journals and experience with patent filings. </li><li>Ability to navigate and obtain IRB or similar approvals </li><li>Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills. </li></ul> <p>Preferred Attributes:</p> <ul> <li>Experience in academic research centers or public health institutions. </li><li>Demonstrated success in securing grants or leading funded research. </li><li>Passion for ethical AI, health equity, and data governance. </li></ul> <p>Pay Range:</p> <p>$93,399.49-$154,117.60</p> <p>EEO Statement:</p> <p>Brown University Health is committed to providing equal employment opportunities and maintaining a work environment free from all forms of unlawful discrimination and harassment.</p> <p>Location:</p> <p>Rhode Island Hospital - 593 Eddy Street Providence, Rhode Island 02903</p> <p>Work Type:</p> <p>M-F</p> <p>Work Shift:</p> <p>Day</p> <p>Daily Hours:</p> <p>8 hours</p> <p>Driving Required:</p> <p>No</p>
