<p>The Manager of Editorial Services & Editor of the Choate Rosemary Hall Bulletin is responsible partnering with the Communications Team to create the editorial concept and direction for school publications, website, and digital platforms. This role works with various campus colleagues to create appropriate themes and concepts, develop imagery, write, rewrite, and edit copy used for informational and marketing purposes. This role also serves as editor of the Choate Rosemary Hall alumni magazine.</p> <p>This is a full-time, exempt position.</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Ensures the continuity of editorial tone and theme throughout the family of Choate printed and electronic publications while tailoring the content to the specific needs of and desired outcomes for Choate's primary constituent audiences. </li><li>Create informational and marketing content for printed and electronic publications, along with citations and remarks for school events. </li><li>Works with colleagues to develop concepts that ensure that copy and visualization work well together and follow the communications goals and guidelines, effectively. </li><li>Review all copy (articles, catalogues, handbooks, appeals, flyers, brochures, fact sheets, reports, etc.) submitted to the Communications Office by faculty, staff, or contract writers for content, style, tone, grammar, and suitability for intended audience. Edit copy, rewriting when necessary, and resolve suggested changes with clients. </li><li>Provide timely resolution of recommended editorial changes with authors, ensuring that they approve final copy before the design process and again in layout. Conduct and/or supervise proofreading at all stages. </li><li>Develop concepts and write press releases, news, articles, and feature stories as needed about school programs and activities for school publications, identifying topics, and conducting interviews with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and parents as needed. </li><li>Write and update web content as needed. </li><li>Research and synthesize information to be used as background for speeches, presentations, and reports. </li><li>With the School Strategic Plan as a guide, collaborate with the various parties to determine overall direction for the Bulletin, establishing themes, content that reflects goals of the school and emphases that are dictated by the school's mission and vision. </li><li>Manage alumni/ae profiles identifying potential subjects in cooperation with development and alumni offices and other sources and ensuring that balance reflects audience interests and cultivation need. </li><li>Manage the class notes and book review sections, monitoring alumni happenings and releases of upcoming books and creative works by alumni/ae and parents. Contact publishers for review copies, identify and contract with alumni, and faculty, and other reviewers. </li><li>Bachelor's degree in English, communications, journalism, or related area. Master's degree preferred. </li><li>8-10 years of effective experience in publications development, magazine editing and writing, or in the communications office of a college, secondary school, or nonprofit organization. </li><li>Experience writing for a magazine or daily newspaper a plus. </li><li>Outstanding written, oral, and interpersonal communications skills. </li><li>Demonstrated success with collaboration, relationship & team building, both internally and externally. </li><li>Knowledge of and demonstrated capability regarding informative and persuasive writing, communication concepts, and strategies and public relations theories. </li><li>Archival and trend research skills and experience. </li><li>Proven project management skills, delivering projects on time and on budget. </li><li>Demonstrated knowledge of Internet publishing, Chicago Style, and Associated Press Style. </li></ul>
