CSEE will do this by creating a challenging learning environment with high expectations for every child with an emphasis on the basic subject areas of English-language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science. The school will employ standards-based and research-proven curriculum, implement best educational practices, use a variety of assessments to measure ongoing student progress in skills and content learning and support teachers with professional development activities that are aligned to the instructional program. CSEE's emphasis on basic subjects will give students a strong academic foundation that will allow them to become critical thinkers and life-long learners. The school will also expose students to a diverse curriculum that promotes appreciation of art, music, and cultural awareness. The Charter School of Educational Excellence will provide a safe and nurturing environment for all students and foster a strong partnership with families and the community.Position OverviewThe K-4 Instructional Coach and Curriculum Specialist supports the K-4 building by observing classrooms and providing verbal and written feedback, reviewing lesson plans for best practices, and analyzing and presenting assessment data. The specialist identifies key factors that drive excellent academic outcomes through these activities and collaborates with school leaders to implement those strategies.The Instructional Coach and Curriculum Specialist meets regularly with administration and grade-level teams to share best practices and enhance their pedagogical expertise. The specialist analyzes trends across grade levels to determine the most effective instructional strategies for students. Additionally, the specialist ensures that curricular work products-such as lesson plans, projects, and assessments-are of high quality, timely, and error-free. They work to adapt, assess, and ensure strong implementation of curriculum and assessments.Responsibilities & duties (including, but not limited to)Meet regularly with the K-4 Principal, Directors, grade teams, and individual teachers to identify and enact instructional priorities.Partner with the principal and other team leads to improve academics by sharing best practices and expertise in curriculum and refining their approach to academic coaching. Ensure teachers are using NYS NGLS-aligned teaching practices throughout the school year.Conduct consistent, high-quality classroom observations with feedback, including vetting lesson plans, collecting classroom data, and identifying strengths and key levers for observed teachers. Identify trends across classrooms and communicate them to the Principal and the Academics team.Use data to identify areas needing support at each grade level as well as effective practices to be shared and implemented across grades. Create and enact plans to address areas needing improvement.Support the school in enhancing its academic and pedagogical expertise through professional development, book study groups, co-observations with school leaders, and direct support to individual teachers.Identify and work to overcome barriers to high-quality instruction in classrooms.Create and revise high-quality, timely, and error-free digital exams, units, and lesson materials.
