Sterile instruments are handled during surgery and assistance is provided with various other pre-, intra-, and postoperative related tasks.</p> <p>Job Description:</p> <p>Essential Duties & Responsibilities (including but not limited to):</p> <ol> <li>Demonstrates skill in preparing for assigned surgical procedures: </li></ol> <ul> <li>Consults with team members to identify individual patient needs </li></ul> <ol start="2"> <li> <p>Utilizes physician preference cards to check case carts and obtain appropriate instruments, equipment, suture, and supplies</p> </li><li> <p>Utilizes available resources (e.g., experienced personnel, policy/procedure manuals, texts) to prepare for assignments</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrates resourcefulness when procedures are unusual or unfamiliar</p> </li><li> <p>Collaborates with team members to improve/update preference cards or other resource information</p> </li><li> <p>Prepares case set-up within an acceptable timeframe</p> </li><li> <p>Scrubs, gowns, and gloves according to procedure</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains strict aseptic technique</p> </li><li> <p>Prioritizes set-up</p> </li><li> <p>Completes set-up according to accepted standards; i.e., neat, organized, accurate.</p> </li><li> <p>Conserves supplies and equipment</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrates skill in performing intraoperative scrub responsibilities:</p> </li></ol> <ul> <li>Maintains strict aseptic technique throughout procedure </li></ul> <ol start="13"> <li> <p>Assists with appropriate prepping and draping according to procedure</p> </li><li> <p>Maintains organized back table</p> </li><li> <p>Anticipates the needs of the surgical team</p> </li><li> <p>Demonstrates skill in the proper handling of instruments</p> </li><li> <p>Consistently focuses attention on the surgical procedure</p> </li><li> <p>Communicates with the team to promote smooth progression of the procedure</p> </li><li> <p>Performs counts according to MAH policy/procedure</p> </li><li> <p>Practices and promotes electro-surgical safety: adheres to policy/procedure</p> </li><li> <p>Gives thorough, concise report at change of shift or whenever relieved from surgical procedure</p> </li><li> <p>Conserves supplies and equipment: respects cost, environmental waste, and patient/personnel safety</p> </li><li> <p>Respects patient's privacy</p> </li><li> <p>Performs the scrub role for the following procedures representative of MAH Surgical Services case types:</p> </li></ol> <ul> <li> <p>Vascular:</p> </li><li> <p>Fem-pop bypass</p> </li><li> <p>AAA</p> </li><li> <p>Carotid</p> </li><li> <p>A-V Fistula</p> </li><li> <p>Vein ligations</p> </li><li> <p>Neuro:</p> </li><li> <p>Lumbar laminectomy</p> </li><li> <p>Cervical laminectomy</p> </li><li> <p>Craniotomy</p> </li><li> <p>Burr holes</p> </li><li> <p>V-P shunt</p> </li><li> <p>Plastic/Hand:</p> </li><li> <p>Mini-fragment set</p> </li><li> <p>External fixation</p> </li><li> <p>Microscope</p> </li><li> <p>Breast reduction</p> </li><li> <p>Implants</p> </li><li> <p>ORIF</p> </li><li> <p>Gyn:</p> </li><li> <p>Laparoscopy</p> </li><li> <p>Ectopic</p> </li><li> <p>Ovarian cystectomy, oophorectomy</p> </li><li> <p>D&E equipment</p> </li><li> <p>Hysteroscopy</p> </li><li> <p>ENT:</p> </li><li> <p>Tracheostomy</p> </li><li> <p>Nasal Bleeds</p> </li><li> <p>Sinus endoscopy</p> </li><li> <p>Mastoidectomy</p> </li><li> <p>Stapedectomy</p> </li><li> <p>Laryngoscopy</p> </li><li> <p>Tonsillectomy</p> </li><li> <p>Myringotomy/tubes</p> </li><li> <p>Ortho:</p> </li><li> <p>Richards hip</p> </li><li> <p>ODC</p> </li><li> <p>A/O Synthes</p> </li><li> <p>Arthroscopy</p> </li><li> <p>ORIF</p> </li><li> <p>GU:</p> </li><li> <p>Lithotripsy: electrohydraulic, ultrasonic</p> </li><li> <p>Cysto, Retrogrades, TUR, continuous flow</p> </li><li> <p>Ureteroscope, stents</p> </li><li> <p>Radical prostatectomy</p> </li><li> <p>Circumcision</p> </li><li> <p>Vasectomy</p> </li><li> <p>General:</p> </li><li> <p>Lap Chole</p> </li><li> <p>Bowel resection</p> </li><li> <p>Organ harvest</p> </li><li> <p>Breast surgery</p> </li><li> <p>Hernia repair</p> </li><li> <p>Port-a-cath</p> </li><li> <p>Cardiothoracic:</p> </li><li> <p>Bronchoscopy</p> </li><li> <p>Thoracoscopy</p> </li><li> <p>Thoracotomy</p> </li><li> <p>Pacemaker</p> </li><li> <p>Assists in preparing for CABG, MVR</p> </li><li> <p>Scrubs to hold heart.</p> </li><li> <p>Identifies/reviews location of supplies.</p> </li><li> <p>Ophthalmology:</p> </li><li> <p>Cataract</p> </li><li> <p>Entropion repair</p> </li><li> <p>R&R</p> </li><li> <p>Podiatry</p> </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <ol> <li> <p>Graduate of an Operating room Technician Program, or equivalent preparation.</p> </li><li> <p>One year of Operating Room experience preferred.</p> </li><li> <p>Good interpersonal skills</p> </li><li> <p>Must be C.O.R.T. certified or eligible.</p> </li></ol> <p>Physical Requirements & Environment:</p> <ol> <li> <p>Walks and stands up to 90% of their work time.</p> </li><li> <p>Must be able to push and pull heavy weights (including patients) and lift 50 pounds.</p> </li><li> <p>Exposure to trace anesthetic gases and other chemicals in the environment.</p> </li><li> <p>Exposure to patient fluids and/or specimens throughout the work day.</p> </li><li> <p>Use of power tools during surgery is required.</p> </li><li> <p>Personal protective equipment is required, including eye protection, gowns, gloves, and surgical masks.</p> </li><li> <p>Complies with precautions, as defined by Infection Control staff, in patients/materials requiring isolation.</p> </li><li> <p>Consistently uses sharps safety devices as designed to prevent injuries to self</p> </li></ol> <p>As a health care organization, we have a responsibility to do everything in our power to care for and protect our patients, our colleagues and our communities.
