<p>Description</p> <p>Title: Instructor,CC (Aeronautics Maintenance(AERO))</p> <p>Position Number: 0074796 & 0074770 (two positions)</p> <p>Hiring Unit: Transportation and Trades Programs (TECH I)</p> <p>Location: Honolulu Community College</p> <p>Date Posted: July 17, 2025</p> <p>Closing Date: Continuous recruitment review of applications to begins on August 18, 2025</p> <p>Salary: Commensurate with Education and Experience</p> <p>Monthly Type: 9 Months</p> <p>Tenure Track: Tenure</p> <p>Full Time/Part Time: Full Time</p> <p>Temporary/Permanent: Permanent</p> <p>Other Conditions:</p> <p>Two (2) positions, to begin approximately Spring 2026; general funds, contingent on satisfactory performance, operational and program needs, actual staffing requirements, and availability of funds. Position may be converted from 9-month to 11-month or 11-month to 9-month as operational needs are required.</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>To develop, maintain and teach courses in the Aeronautics Maintenance Technology program. </li><li>Courses include but are not limited to: general aircraft maintenance, advanced general aircraft maintenance, power plant maintenance and airframe maintenance. </li><li>Work under the guidance of colleagues to develop an understanding of student needs in discipline or area of primary responsibility. </li><li>Work independently and with the guidance of colleagues to develop, select and implement strategies to meet student needs, and to develop student learning outcomes. </li><li>Develop curriculum and align courses to meet student needs and college objectives. </li><li>Prepare, develop, revise and implement course outlines, student learning outcomes, syllabi and related course materials as needed to meet Part 147 FAA requirements. </li><li>Serve as faculty mentor to AERO students. </li><li>Maintain subject matter currency and be willing to continually update courses to keep up with college and student needs to meet industry demands. </li><li>Perform program and course assessment; assist in institution level assessment. </li><li>Participate in department, industry advisory meetings and division meetings. </li><li>Related work activities include, but are not limited to, course scheduling, program budgeting, maintaining program articulation agreements, assisting in campus-related student activities; participating in faculty/administrative committees, campus and community service, and in-service training; maintaining an approved program of professional self-development; independently planning, organizing, and carrying out instructional and noninstructional assignments, and in collaboration with the Dean, Division Chair, faculty and staff. </li><li>Instructional assignments may involve distance education and early college high school instruction. May require background check to teach at Hawaii Department of Education (HIDOE) school. </li><li>Must maintain at least one office hour per week for each class taught. Must be available for evening and weekend teaching assignments, teaching on campus, off-campus at military bases, secondary education sites (high schools) and/or distance learning assignments for courses taught via the internet. This is not a remote position. For some teaching fields, openings may only be available for classes offered on military bases or taught via the Internet. To teach on a military base, Department of Defense security clearance will be required. To teach Early College courses for HIDOE schools, background checks will be required. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree plus 5 years per Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations of related work experience, plus current FAA Airframe & Power Plant License, DME certifiable; OR </li><li>Associate's Degree plus 5 years per FAA regulations work experience, plus current FAA Airframe & Power Plant License, DME certifiable; OR </li><li>15 college credits plus 7 years, (including training) related work experience, plus current FAA Airframe & Power Plant License, DME certifiable. </li></ul> <p>Note: Minimum qualifications (degrees and credits) must be earned from regionally or nationally accredited postsecondary colleges and universities recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and met by the effective date of appointment. If qualified applicants are not available, others will be considered as acting instructor.</p> <p>Desirable Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Teaching experience in the field of aviation mechanics. </li><li>Experience working in a successful FAR Part 147 program. </li><li>Familiarity with or experience in an air carrier maintenance organization. </li><li>Experience in a small aircraft (General Aviation) maintenance organization. </li><li>Inspection authorization rating on an Airframe and Powerplant license. </li><li>Willingness to keep abreast of technical development in the field of aviation and apply these to the program. </li><li>Ability to work with a variety of colleagues from other disciplines, student support services, and community organizations to help accomplish the goals of the program. </li><li>Evidence of successful teaching in a community college setting or post-secondary level. </li><li>Experience in developing/modifying college level courses. </li><li>Demonstrated success serving as a mentor, advisor, or team leader. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively. </li><li>Demonstrated ability to function independently and as a member of a team. </li><li>Experience in use of technology to support instruction and student success, including but not limited to LMS, CRM, Early Alert and presentation software. </li><li>A willingness to adapt to new technology platforms as needed for student and program success. </li></ul> <p>To Apply:</p> <p>Click on tthe "Apply" button on the top right corner of the screen to complete an application and attach required documents (please redact SSN and birthdate on all uploaded documents).</p> <p>Required Documents include:</p> <ul> <li>Graduate and undergradute transcript(s) from a regionally accredited institution of higher education showing degree and coursework to date appropriate to the position; an unofficial copy of the transcript (e.g. copy) must be submitted with the application, and original transcipt(s) will be required at the time of hire.
