<p>College: Fletcher Technical Community College</p> <p>Department: Academic Affairs & Initiatives</p> <p>Sub department: WorkReady U</p> <p>Type of Appointment: Unclassified - Adjunct</p> <p>Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <p>Instructional/Teaching Performance & Development</p> <ul> <li>Utilize innovative, effective, and equitable teaching techniques </li><li>Follow course syllabi and outlines </li><li>Maintain time on task </li><li>Receive favorable student evaluations of instruction </li><li>Maintain teaching load practiced by college </li><li>Develop Curriculum Guides, course syllabi and outlines, and other instructional materials </li><li>Prepare course offering schedule based on Curriculum Guides </li><li>Participate in curriculum meetings </li><li>Other Related Duties as Assigned and/or Listed as Program Specific Job Position Details </li></ul> <p>Instructional/Classroom Management</p> <ul> <li>Maintain an active advisory committee with required composition of membership, and hold a minimum of two meetings annually </li><li>Maintain appropriate student records, i.e., grades, attendance, placement, completion, and licensure statistics (if applicable), etc. </li><li>Practice appropriate safety precautions </li><li>Maintain student discipline </li></ul> <p>Student Guidance/Advising Activities/Student Mentoring</p> <ul> <li>Provide guidance, career counseling, and academic advising </li><li>Serve special populations </li><li>Make appropriate referrals to students with special needs </li><li>Maintain appropriate number of students in class and in program </li><li>Help students establish realistic goals, behavior changes, and ways to overcome barriers </li><li>Encourage and support students to move out of their comfort zones, network, and celebrate successes </li><li>Identify resources for personal development/growth, such as books, workshops, or other learning tools </li></ul> <p>College and/or Community Services</p> <ul> <li>Participate in recruitment activities, i.e. career fairs, etc. </li><li>Maintain program accreditation/certification or program licensure requirements </li><li>Provide service to the college that may include some of the following activities: </li></ul> <p>o Sponsor student organizations</p> <p>o Conduct or coordinate teaching consultant activities</p> <p>o Facilitate workshops</p> <p>o Teach continuing education or customized industry courses</p> <p>o Initiate and write new program proposals</p> <p>o Provide service to the community that may include:</p> <p>o Participate in health fairs, charity or community activities and/or organizations</p> <p>Professional Activities, Leadership, and Service</p> <ul> <li>Participate in professional development activities that may include: </li><li>Complete coursework or degrees </li><li>Membership in professional organizations </li><li>Serve on a Board or in an Office of a professional association </li><li>Present a paper or facilitate a workshop at a professional conference </li><li>Participate in a Leadership Academy </li><li>Serve on an external institutional or program accreditation team </li><li>Participate in industry visits </li><li>Exemplify Leadership role on Fletcher or LCTCS Committees, Faculty Council, etc. </li></ul> <p>This adjunct teaching role may include instructional responsibilities within a secure correctional facility as part of WIOA Section 225 (Corrections Education). In such assignments, instructors will:</p> <ul> <li>Deliver ABE/ASE instruction aligned with WorkReady U and College & Career Readiness Standards </li><li>Administer TABE, HiSET, and required assessments in accordance with facility protocols </li><li>Adhere to all safety, security, and behavioral guidelines as established by the correctional facility </li><li>Use instructional materials approved for secure settings </li><li>Refer students to reentry or support services when appropriate </li><li>Complete security training and background checks required by the facility </li><li>Teach scheduled classes in the evening (9 hours/week, as applicable) </li><li>Comply with all WRU, WIOA Section 225, and Department of Corrections policies </li><li>Other Related Duties as Assigned and/or Listed as Program Specific Job Position Details </li></ul> <p>Required Education: An associate's degree from an accredited college or university and professional experience required.</p> <p>Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Candidates must have good instructional techniques, computer knowledge, a student-centered attitude, and must be well organized.</p> <p>Preferred Education: A bachelor's degree in education or a related field is preferred.</p> <p>Passing pre-employment criminal background screen is required as a condition of employment.
