<p>Job Title: Surgical Technologist</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>Assist in surgical and invasive procedures by preparing and providing sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment. Maintain a sterile field and proactively meet the needs of the surgical team.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Function as a scrub person during operative and other invasive procedures. </li><li>Protect the patient from injury caused by extraneous objects and chemical, electrical, laser, mechanical, and thermal sources. </li><li>Demonstrate safe operation of equipment and machinery, and follow procedures for reporting and correcting unsafe situations. </li><li>Perform accounting procedures to protect the patient from unintended retained surgical items. </li><li>Speak up with safety concerns and act as the patient's advocate. </li><li>Handle specimens according to facility policy and procedures. </li><li>Adhere to standard precautions, including the use of personal protective equipment. </li><li>Perform interventions to maintain the patient's wound and tissue perfusion at or above baseline levels. </li><li>Perform interventions to protect the patient from surgical site infection. </li><li>Assemble supplies and equipment required for the procedure. </li><li>Prepare and organize sterile supplies and instruments for the procedure. </li><li>Provide instruments and supplies to the surgical team during the procedure. </li><li>Protect the patient's rights, dignity, and privacy. </li><li>Provide age-specific, culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards of practice. </li><li>Maintain a fire-safe environment. </li><li>Practice and monitor aseptic technique. </li><li>Comply with Universal Protocol and facility site validation and time-out policy. </li><li>Maintain radiation safety at all times in accordance with facility policies and procedures. </li><li>Clean and prepare surgical instruments for processing and transport them to the decontamination areas. </li><li>Evaluate the patient's progress toward attaining outcomes. </li><li>Provide hand-off reports to other teammates that are accurate, concise, and pertinent to the patient's condition and response to care. </li><li>Document episodes of care accurately, timely, completely, and legibly. </li><li>Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration skills with members of the perioperative team and other stakeholders. </li><li>Assist with post-procedure cleaning of the surgery area. </li></ul> <p>Essential Skills</p> <ul> <li>Proficiency in sterilization and surgical instrumentation. </li><li>High School Diploma or equivalent required. </li><li>Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technologist Program preferred. </li><li>Previous experience as a Surgical Technologist preferred. </li><li>Current Surgical Technologist certification preferred. </li><li>Completion of BCLS Course within 90 days of employment or proof of current BCLS certification. </li></ul> <p>Additional Skills & Qualifications</p> <ul> <li>Ability to provide age-specific, culturally competent care. </li><li>Knowledge of aseptic techniques and universal protocols. </li><li>Strong documentation and communication skills. </li></ul> <p>Work Environment</p> <p>The position is based in a surgery center setting, requiring adherence to strict aseptic and safety protocols.
