<p>Class Definition</p> <p>GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: To install, inspect, and repair water, sewer, and other plumbing systems; to insulate piping systems; and to do related work as required.</p> <p>SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Receives general and specific work assignments from a superior with considerable latitude for the use of independent judgment in the application of the practices and techniques of the trade; work is reviewed usually upon completion for satisfactory performance.</p> <p>SUPERVISION EXERCISED: As required, supervises the work of helpers or others assigned to assist in the performance of a work assignment.</p> <p>Illustrative Examples of Work Performed</p> <p>Under general supervision, to install, inspect, and repair water and sewer systems, including lavatory facilities, faucets, drinking fountains, sprinkler systems, and cafeteria equipment.</p> <p>To inspect and maintain institutional equipment, such as continuous baths, shampoo tables, arm and foot baths, thermostatic mixing valves, and various hydrotherapy equipment.</p> <p>To install, inspect, and repair gas and air lines.</p> <p>To cut, thread, and bend pipes according to requirements.</p> <p>To keep all power equipment and hand tools of the trade in good working condition.</p> <p>As required, to requisition supplies and tools.</p> <p>As required, to keep materials and time records.</p> <p>To do related work as required.</p> <p>Required Qualifications for Appointment</p> <p>KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND CAPACITIES: A thorough knowledge of the practices, techniques, tools, equipment, and materials used in the plumbing trade and skill in the application of such practices and techniques; skill in the use of the tools and equipment used in the plumbing trade; a working knowledge of safety measures and precautions; the ability to work from plans and specifications and to follow rough sketches and oral and written instructions; and related capacities and abilities.</p> <p>EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:</p> <p>Education: Such as may have been gained through: completion of eight school grades; and</p> <p>Experience: Such as may have been gained through: employment as a journeyman plumber.</p> <p>Or, any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.</p> <p>SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:</p> <p>Must possess a journeyman plumber's license in the State of Rhode Island and must maintain such licensure as a condition of employment.
