<p>Medical Assistant-Certified Maternal Fetal Medicine A Brief Overview Responsible for assisting providers and other members of the health care team in providing high quality patient care. What you will do Assist physician and other providers to examine and treat patients, including handing instruments or material or performing such tasks as giving injections or removing sutures. May give medications or immunizations, administer basic healthcare or medical treatment, change dressings on wounds, and apply bandages, dressings, or splints. Obtains, identifies and records patients# medical history, vital statistics, prevention data, medications, chief complaints and other pertinent information; observes, records and reports pertinent patient symptoms, reactions, condition changes or information such as test results in medical records. Collects, prepares and transports blood, tissue or other laboratory specimens, logs specimens and prepares for testing. Performs basic laboratory test, disposes of contaminated supplies and sterilizes instruments. Performs phlebotomy functions, venipuncture and skin puncture procedures as requested or required by provider. Prepares treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping rooms neat, clean and stocked with adequate medical supplies. Maintains instruments and prepares sterilization as required. Operates electrocardiogram (EKG) or other medical equipment to administer routine diagnostic test. Prepares patient for visit, keeps them updated on the status of their appointment and assist with rescheduling or scheduling follow-up appointments. Instructs patient as to general clinic policies, patients# rights and responsibilities as needed. Explains treatment procedures, medications, diets or physician#s instructions. Performs clerical duties in support of patient services to include but not limited to front desk support, patient registration and check-out, answering phones, filing/assembling charts completing tab sets, computer data entry, transcribing orders and ordering test. Qualifications Successful completion of an approved Medical Assistant program. Required Current documentation of a national certification as a Certified Medical Assistant through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or for the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through the American Medical Technologists (AMT) or for Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or for CCAMA through MedCA Certifications. Upon Hire Required and Must also have current CPR certification.
