TheDepartment of Environmental Services (ENV) is looking for an experienced Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator IV to operate and maintain our wastewater treatment facilities. We currently have one full-time, permanent vacancy located in Honolulu. This role involves monitoring and operating the island-wide wastewater pumping and treatment facilities using the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, following all safety rules and procedures to protect yourself, your coworkers, and the public.</p> <p>What You'll Do</p> <ul> <li>Monitor and operate the island-wide wastewater pumping and treatment facility SCADA system, making timely decisions and remotely controlling equipment during emergencies or unusual situations. </li><li>Ensure pumping and treatment operations comply with Department policies and federal/state mandates through continuous SCADA system oversight. </li><li>Provide initial guidance and supervision to wastewater pumping and treatment plant operators during emergency responses and acting in the absence of supervisors as needed. </li><li>Maintain communication with supervisors regarding operational changes and identifying equipment needs for maintenance, repairs, and upgrades within the Control Center and SCADA system. </li><li>Assist the public during off-hours and emergencies by addressing inquiries and dispatching appropriate personnel to resolve issues promptly. </li><li>Perform other related duties as required. </li></ul> <p>Special Work Requirements</p> <ul> <li>Operating hours are 24/7, with 8-hour rotating shifts, Sunday through Saturday. </li><li>Exposure to active machinery, high voltages, toxic and hazardous gases, and unpleasant conditions is expected. </li><li>Will serve as a Disaster Response Worker during declared civil defense emergencies. </li></ul> <p>Apply today to be part of the team that keeps our island's wastewater systems running safely and efficiently! Data and text messaging fees apply.</p> <p>Minimum Qualification Requirements</p> <p>At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.</p> <p>EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:</p> <p>Graduation from high school or equivalent satisfactory to the State Board of Certification of Operating Personnel in Wastewater Plants.</p> <p>EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:</p> <p>Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to competently perform the journey level skills and duties of the position.</p> <p>Key Competencies and Skills Needed:</p> <ul> <li>Knowledge of practices and procedures used in the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment and pumping plant equipment. </li><li>Knowledge of the various types of wastewaters and associated problems and processes. </li><li>Knowledge of sampling methods and the physical and chemical tests used in treatment plant control. </li><li>Knowledge of hazards and safety practices involved in working around high voltage equipment and moving machinery. </li><li>Knowledge of process quality control requirements and remedial measures in dealing with process malfunctions and emergencies. </li><li>Ability to operate and maintain electrical pumping units and auxiliary equipment. </li><li>Ability to read and interpret meters and gauges, record readings and maintain operating records. </li><li>Ability to perform the required laboratory tests and analyzes results; make arithmetical computations. </li><li>Ability to act quickly and effectively in emergencies. </li></ul> <p>LICENSE/CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENT:</p> <ul> <li>Possession of the applicable Hawaii Mandatory Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate. </li><li>Current valid driver's license (Type 3 or modified 4) or appropriate commercial driver's license with proper endorsements, as applicable. </li><li>Current State Department of Transportation medical examination certificate, as required. </li></ul> <p>Current Vacancy Requirements</p> <p>At the time of application:</p> <ul> <li>Current Grade IV Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate issued by the Board of Certification of Operating Personnel in Wastewater Treatment Facilities, </li></ul> <p>Verification Requirement: Please attach an electronic copy of your Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate (Class IV) to your application.
