<p>Engineering a world of possibilities</p> <p>The Department of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (HASS) invites applicants for a part-time position as adjunct instructor for Nature and Human Values (NHV).</p> <p>This course combines composition with professional and environmental ethics. Topics include writing instruction, ethical philosophy, and science and engineering ethics. More information on the course can be found at this link.</p> <p>Opportunities are available for Fall 2025 for up to two sections of the course. For full consideration for Fall 2025, please submit applications by June 30, 2025. The 2025-2026 Nature and Human Values adjunct instructor applicant pool will expire on July 31, 2025. Please note that this advertisement is for in-person instruction on the Colorado School of Mines campus in Golden, CO only. There are no remote teaching opportunities available for this course.</p> <p>The Nature and Human Values program hires the most new adjunct instructors for the Fall semester each year. Fewer course sections are offered in the spring and summer semesters, and available sections are assigned to returning adjuncts based on seniority and demonstrated teaching excellence.</p> <p>PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES</p> <ul> <li>Instruct students in composition, research, and professional and environmental ethics </li><li>Measure student progress toward learning outcomes by grading and giving feedback on written and oral assignments </li><li>Facilitate discussions around moral and ethical issues related to the engineering profession </li></ul> <p>Additional responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Hold regular office hours </li><li>Engage students on Canvas and by email in a timely manner </li><li>Participate in beginning and end-of-the-semester meetings for course instructors, join occasional professional development meetings, and respond in a timely manner to emails from the coordinator </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Education and Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Masters in a field related to composition, ethics, environmental studies, or technical communication </li><li>Ability to provide meaningful feedback on student writing and to develop writing lesson plans </li><li>Ability to lead inclusive conversations about ethics and morality </li><li>Ability to work with existing program curriculum and develop new assignments and materials as needed </li><li>Ability to navigate online learning management systems (Canvas) </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:</p> <ul> <li>Confidence in expanding learning base in new subject areas </li></ul> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>Education and Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Ph.D. or terminal degree in a field related to composition, ethics, environmental studies, or technical communication </li><li>Advanced skills in using learning management systems (Canvas) </li></ul> <p>About Mines & Golden, CO</p> <p>When the world looks for answers, the world looks to Mines.</p> <p>Colorado School of Mines is a top-ranked public university solving the grand challenges facing our society, particularly those related to the Earth, energy and the environment.
