<p>It is the mission of the Facilities Department at Colgate University to create the safest, cleanest, and most comfortable environment that further distinguishes Colgate University as a world-class educational institution. To ensure quality service to our community, we provide strong coordination and communications between multi-functional groups and our customers, with a customer-oriented approach. Training and development of self-directed teams promotes a work environment that encourages employee initiative, engagement and development.</p> <p>This position oversees 2nd shift custodians, groundskeepers, and tradespeople, ensuring effective maintenance, regulatory compliance, and excellent service to the campus community. Key responsibilities include staff supervision, performance management, and maintaining accurate records. This role requires strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.</p> <p>Accountabilities</p> <ul> <li>Serves as the point of contact for campus departments needing after-hours support and ensures all assigned employees execute work properly, within relevant regulatory guidelines and with emphasis on safety and sustainability. </li><li>Ensures assigned employees are courteous and responsive and have positive interactions with campus stakeholders. </li><li>Accountable for maintaining appropriate documentation as assigned. </li><li>Accountable for continuous condition assessment and work inspections. </li><li>Responsible for the effective supervision of staff as assigned. </li><li>Ensures selection and hiring of high-quality employees; ensures appropriate distribution of work assignments and high quality of employee work product; ensures fair and accurate performance assessments and feedback to include identifying areas for professional development and documenting and conducting disciplinary measures, as needed. </li><li>Responsible for ensuring fair and accurate decisions regarding employment status (hire, promotion, salary increases, termination ); ensures the creation of effective opportunities and programs for employee mentoring, development and sustained performance. </li><li>Ensures smooth transitions between shifts and proper documentation of work completed or outstanding. </li><li>Coordinates with Campus Safety and/or environmental health and safety as needed. </li></ul> <p>Technical Competencies</p> <p>Name Building Systems Description</p> <p>Demonstrated general understanding of all operationally critical building and grounds systems at a basic level.</p> <p>Name Budget Management and Fiscal Responsibility Description</p> <p>Demonstrated knowledge to build, manage within and forecast capital and operational budgets in excess of $3M.</p> <p>Name Operational Efficiency Description</p> <p>General understanding of all building/grounds systems, with further developed expertise in specific areas of responsibility.</p> <p>Name Customer Service Description</p> <p>Demonstrated ability to consistently create positive interactions with stakeholders around campus and in the community. Demonstrated ability to accurately gather and implement stakeholder requirements</p> <p>Name Managerial Skills Description</p> <p>Demonstrated knowledge of Colgate managerial processes and requirements, to include:</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrated ability to fairly and accurately assess employee performance in accordance with university practices. </li><li>Demonstrated understanding of federal and state regulations, as well as university policies and guidelines related to human resources sufficient to effectively select new employees, recommend pay actions, determine employment status and initiate or approve employee changes in status. </li></ul> <p>Demonstrated ability to select, develop and retain high performing work teams, to include:</p> <ul> <li>Demonstrated skill in the development of employee skills, performance and behaviors.
