<p>Job Title</p> <p>Principal Tailings Engineer</p> <p>Vacancy No</p> <p>VN5057</p> <p>Employment Type</p> <p>Permanent</p> <p>Contract Type</p> <p>Full-Time</p> <p>Advert</p> <p>SLR Consulting is seeking a full-time Principal / Senior Principal Engineer with over 20 years of tailings engineering experience to join our Mine Waste Engineering (MWE) team. Preferred locations include Denver, Reno or Phoenix. The successful candidate must have experience in the design, construction, operations and monitoring of Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs), and have been / are an Engineer of Record (EOR) or Deputy EOR for a TSF.</p> <p>This position is part of an innovative and collaborative global team that works in the mining sector. This position also offers the exciting opportunity to be a leader within the MWE group and help develop and mentor staff. The successful candidate will play a key role in establishing a strong team, fostering a collaborative work environment, and driving the growth and success of the group.</p> <p>The ideal candidate will have active clients and expertise in client management, internal staff management, the management of multiple project efforts and project teams and business development. This will include coordination with staff resources, clients, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and writing skills that include the ability to review and provide feedback on proposals, reports, and other technical documents.</p> <p>Job Description</p> <p>We are SLR Consulting (US), a 500+ coast-to-coast team of advisory, environmental/engineering, and regulatory professionals. Final agreed upon compensation will be commensurate with individual education, professional designation, experience, internal parity, and location. </li><li>Full-time, permanent role with opportunities for professional growth and advancement </li></ul> <p>Key Responsibilities</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Audit, review, design, construction, and remediation of tailings structures at all stages of the projects. This includes pre-feasibility, feasibility, detailed design, construction, operational and closure stages </li><li>Undertaking desk-based studies utilizing data and information from a variety of sources </li><li>Undertaking due diligence reviews </li><li>Undertake Dam Safety Reviews (DSRs) and Dam Safety Inspections (DSIs) </li><li>Project management and co-ordination </li><li>Report and proposal writing </li><li>Mentorship of employees </li><li>Travel to sites </li><li>Be client facing and able to identify and develop new opportunities </li><li>Provide clear, concise business-focused findings, recommendations and options regarding client deliverables </li><li>Collaborate in a team atmosphere to plan and meet timelines and requirements along with budget goal </li></ul> <p>Qualifications/Education/Memberships:</p> <ul> <li>Previous experience in design, construction, and surveillance of Tailings Storage Facilities with specific experience in serving as EOR or Deputy EOR, and the willingness to take on this role </li><li>Minimum of 15 years of tailings experience </li><li>Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the US and / or Canada, or immediately eligible for registration </li><li>Passion for technical excellence, mentorship, and continuous improvement </li><li>M.Sc. in a related Engineering field of study would be advantageous </li><li>Ability to review reports and carry out audits </li><li>Ability to manage people, and technical teams and mentor junior staff </li><li>Work with multidisciplinary teams on a variety of projects within the mining sector </li><li>Demonstrated Project Management skills including scheduling and budgeting and the ability to lead, train and mentor junior staff </li><li>Working familiarity with GISTM, CDA, USSD and ICOLD </li><li>Demonstrated ability in business development to build a backlog of work to support a project technical team dedicated to tailings engineering </li><li>Willing to travel by car and airplane including overnight travel for international or domestic project </li></ul> <p>Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) are at the core of who we are and want to be.</p> <p>SLR is proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity / Affirmative Action Employer.
