Friendship Place offers the most effective model for addressing homelessness, with innovative, customized programs with positive, demonstrable results and a lasting impact on the community and beyond. Our programs are person-centric and individualized to meet the needs and goals of individuals, families, youth/young adults, and Veterans experiencing homelessness. We provide outreach, hospitality, health care, case management, housing, job placement services, and advocacy. The building contains 50 units and is located in Northwest, DC. The program follows a Housing First model philosophy and utilizes best practices to ensure participants can transition from short-term family housing to independent housing within 90 days. The Shift Supervisor will ensure the smooth operation of each shift. The role will be the primary point of contact for DHS and DGS during the shift.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Provides supervision and performance management of the Residential Aides to ensure each shift runs smoothly. </li><li>Provides appropriate oversight of the short-term family housing site participants and enforces program policies. </li><li>Provides an efficient and safe working environment for participants, employees, and visitors at the short-term family housing site. This includes ensuring spills are attended to and that universal precautions are utilized. </li><li>Reviews, explains, and provides each family with a copy of the program rules during intake and reviews the rights and responsibilities with the residents. </li><li>Process intakes according to the program's rules, procedures, etc. </li><li>Ensures a daily log is maintained to record all activities and information. </li><li>Provides de-escalation services to the participants as needed and ensures the safety and well-being of all staff and residents, including contacting MPD, Mobile Crisis, and/or CHAMPS as necessary. </li><li>Primary point of contact for DHS and DGS on building matters </li><li>Ensures noise within the facility is kept to a minimum during the overnight shift. </li><li>Ensures all staff remain awake and alert at all times </li><li>Report any instances of pests to DGS </li><li>Ensure the submittal of all Unusual Incident Reports (UIRs) in the appropriate time frame during each shift. </li><li>Coordinates the delivery, storage, disposal, and distribution of meals. </li><li>Performs all other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Requirements</p> <p>Education/Experience:</p> <ul> <li>Minimum high school diploma or equivalent. </li><li>2 years of experience working in a residential or shelter setting. </li><li>Must have supervisory experience. </li><li>Experience working with families and/or youth and child development and welfare knowledge is preferred. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>General knowledge of working in a homeless shelter or residential facility preferred. </li><li>Provides excellent customer service and demonstrates reliability. </li><li>Demonstrate empathy when responding to participants' needs and requests. </li><li>Use practices including trauma-informed care, verbal judo, and other de-escalation and conflict resolution techniques. </li><li>Ability to remain calm, collected, and professional under stress. </li><li>Punctuality and ability to work independently. </li><li>Experience with computer programs, including but not limited to Excel spreadsheets, emailing, etc. </li><li>Must have good oral and written communication skills. </li></ul> <p>Working conditions: The office is located in an apartment building and exposed to conditions that arise in homes, including occasionally biohazards (e.g., blood, tissue, human waste) and conflict.</p> <p>Physical and Environmental Requirements: The position will alternate between office/desk settings and roving the occupied STFH floors and grounds of The Brooks. The position will view the security camera and footage. The candidate must be able to lift 25 lbs. The candidate will be walking 70% of the time, bending at the knees, and standing for extended periods of time. Staff will interact with participants who have a history of experiencing homelessness.</p> <p>Background checks: [This position is classified as Safety Sensitive under DHS]. The selected candidate will be required to complete and pass background checks specific to contract requirements that may include criminal history background check and fingerprinting, FBI Background Check, DC Metropolitan Police Background Check, State-of-Residence Police Background Check, DC Child Abuse Registry (CFSA), National Sex Offender Registry Check, Drug Panel and Alcohol Screening, Tuberculosis Test, and Driving Record check (for positions transporting participants). Reference checks and verification of current and/or previous employment are required</p> <p>Direct reports:</p> <p>Residential Aides (6)</p> <p>Specific Requirements:</p> <p>Must have a valid government-issued ID and reliable transportation.</p> <p>Other Details:</p> <p>Application Deadline: This job is open until filled or until the hiring manager determines they can no longer accept applications.</p> <p>Compensation: The hiring pay range is between $19.01 and $22.14 per hour. Depending on the position, the starting hourly pay rate or annual salary is based on a step system. A candidate's starting pay determination is based on meeting the basic position requirements and current completed education, credentials, and work experience.
