Position:</p> <ul> <li>High School Special Education Woodshop Teacher </li></ul> <p>Summary:</p> <ul> <li>We are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our high school as a Special Education Woodshop Teacher. As a member of our special education team, you will be responsible for providing specialized instruction in woodworking and carpentry to students with diverse learning needs. Your role will involve creating a safe and inclusive learning environment, adapting teaching strategies, and promoting the development of essential woodworking skills for students with special needs. </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Curriculum Development: </li><li>Design and develop a comprehensive and inclusive woodworking curriculum that aligns with state standards, IEP goals, and individual student needs. </li><li>Create and modify instructional materials and resources to accommodate different learning styles and abilities. </li><li>Instruction and Differentiation </li><li>Deliver engaging and hands-on woodworking lessons to students with special needs, using a variety of teaching methods, materials, and assistive technologies. </li><li>Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs and abilities of students, including adapting tasks, providing scaffolding, and offering additional support when necessary. </li><li>Incorporate real-life applications of woodworking skills to enhance student engagement and relevance. </li><li>Classroom Management: </li><li>Establish and maintain a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment conducive to student success. </li><li>Implement effective social, emotional and behavior management strategies, individual behavior plans, and positive reinforcement techniques to address challenging behaviors and promote a supportive classroom culture. </li><li>Monitor student progress, maintain accurate records, and regularly communicate with parents, guardians, and other members of the educational team. </li><li>Individualized Education Plans (IEPs): </li><li>Collaborate with special education team members, including administrators, psychologists, therapists, and support staff, to develop and implement effective IEPs for students with special needs. </li><li>Attend IEP meetings, contribute valuable insights, and provide input on students' progress, goals, and accommodations related to woodworking. </li><li>Assessment and Evaluation: </li><li>Conduct ongoing assessments to monitor students' progress and skill development in woodworking. </li><li>Utilize a variety of assessment methods, including observations, practical demonstrations, projects, and written assignments, to evaluate student performance and provide constructive feedback. </li><li>Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure consistent evaluation standards across the curriculum </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field (Master's degree preferred). </li><li>Valid teaching certification in Special Education. </li><li>Experience working with students with special needs, particularly in a woodshop or vocational setting. </li><li>Strong knowledge of woodworking techniques, tools, and safety procedures. </li><li>Ability to differentiate instruction and modify curriculum to meet individual student needs. </li><li>Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and the wider school community. </li><li>Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with students with special needs. </li></ul> <p>Terms of Employment:</p> <ul> <li>Reports to: School Principal </li><li>Rate: In accordance with the Unit A contract found here </li></ul> <p>The New Bedford Public Schools do not discriminate on account of age, race, color, sex, gender identity, gender expression, ancestry, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, military status, genetics, or disability that does not prohibit performance of essential job functions in employment for potential employees.
