<p>The Lucas County Court of Common Pleas, General Division, is seeking a dedicated and motivated Probation Officer to join our team. The primary responsibility of this position is group facilitation, utilizing the Decision Points curriculum. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting individuals on probation by leading and guiding them through structured group sessions, aimed at promoting positive behavioral change and rehabilitation.</p> <p>While prior experience in probation or group facilitation is beneficial, it is not required. The department will provide certification in the Decision Points curriculum upon hire, if applicable, to ensure that the right candidate is fully equipped for success in this role.</p> <p>JOB PURPOSE AND OVERVIEW</p> <p>Supervises caseload of offenders placed under community supervision by the Court. Enforces Court orders while monitoring client's progress and compliance. Determines appropriate referrals to community resources based on client's risk and needs. May facilitate individual or group programming.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION</p> <p>The following duties indicate the general nature and level of work performed by this position. They are not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, responsibilities and qualifications required of this position. Other duties may be required or assigned at any time.</p> <ul> <li>Monitor client progress with court ordered conditions, including financial obligations, treatment/programming, drug testing, education, employment, etc. </li><li>Verify information reported by clients. </li><li>Document interactions with clients, the Court, victims, and community agencies to ensure an accurate and thorough record of supervision. </li><li>Facilitate individual and group programming using department established curriculum. </li><li>Perform regular local, state, and federal record checks, document new charges and warrants, and provide notification to the Court of new criminal activity when appropriate. </li><li>Obtain and analyze juvenile and adult criminal history information from various sources and compile criminal record check for court use. </li><li>Communicate with victims to determine impact of offense (physical, psychological, economic), and obtain statements to be forwarded to court. </li><li>Screen clients for participation in programming based on assessed risk and need areas. </li><li>Assess clients using the Ohio Risk Assessment System. </li><li>Supervise clients residing in Lucas County sentenced by other jurisdictions and/or oversee transfer of supervision through Interstate Compact. </li><li>Make sentencing recommendations in compliance with the Ohio Revised Code and department standards. </li><li>Appear in Court to testify, as needed. </li><li>Meet with offenders at the jail, in office, by telephone or virtually as needed. </li><li>Communicate with offenders using evidence-based practices and a cognitive behavioral approach. </li><li>Maintain proficiency and applicable certification with all job and training requirements. </li><li>Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending applicable training. </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS</p> <ul> <li>Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with core course work in areas related to criminal justice, criminology, corrections, psychology, social work or related field. </li><li>NORIS/LEADS Certification required within probationary period. </li><li>ORAS Certification and Ohio Probation Officer Training Program must be completed within the first year. </li><li>Strong analytical and organizational skills and the ability to function at a high level within a large, complex organization. </li><li>Knowledge of common office practices, procedures, and equipment. </li><li>Proficiency in operating a personal computer and using, or being able to learn. </li><li>Ability to prioritize work, work independently without daily direct supervision, and manage a variety of projects simultaneously in a high pressure atmosphere under severe time constraints. Must have good time-management skills and be highly organized and detail-oriented. </li><li>Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with judges, other elected officials, Court employees, law enforcement officers, lawyers, outside agencies, businesses, and the general public. </li><li>Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information. </li><li>Ability to effectively and professionally communicate verbally and in writing in English to diverse audiences, and to produce concise, error-free documents and reports. </li><li>Must be conscious of and sensitive to the diversity within the Court's jurisdiction and be able to interact professionally with this diverse population of people from many different geographic, socioeconomic, religious, racial, and ethnic backgrounds on a regular basis. </li><li>Professional appearance and demeanor appropriate for the position. </li><li>Demonstrated dependability, reliability, and excellent attendance record. </li><li>Patience, objectivity, maturity, effectiveness under stress, initiative, adaptability, leadership, and sound judgment. </li></ul> <p>Additional consideration will be given to applicants who have any of the following qualifications: Experience in the Criminal Justice field.</p> <p>The qualifications and requirements listed above are guidelines for selection purposes.
