<p>Choate Rosemary Hall invites applications for a temporary Library Assistant to support the Library Department from the beginning of the 2025-2026 academic year through mid-October 2025 (approximately 6 weeks).</p> <p>The Library Assistant's primary role is to support the mission of the Library by providing assistance to students, teachers and other library users. The role will assist the Faculty Librarians in all aspects of library operations, including supervision of ASK US desk, various clerical and administrative duties and assist with classes and/or programed instruction.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:</p> <ul> <li>Participates in the staff duty rotation at the service desk and is responsible for providing exemplary customer service for students, faculty, staff and visitors </li><li>Assists students and other patrons in locating and using materials and online resources in the library by answering questions, gathering materials, demonstrating use of equipment and software </li><li>Maintains the library collection; includes shelving and shifting books, adding and withdrawing books, deleting eBooks from database as needed, mending and repairing books and assisting with inventory. </li><li>Maintains a clean, orderly and attractive library environment </li><li>Circulates library materials; includes checking materials in and out, sending overdue announcements and maintain overdue records </li><li>Supervises students in Library Work Crew program </li><li>Participates in large scale projects such as weeding and stack maintenance under the direction of various faculty librarian project managers </li><li>Processes, maintains and weeds the periodical/newspaper collection following established policies and procedures </li><li>Covers book jackets and repairs library materials as needed to preserve and keep them in the collection or flags those items for re-order if needed </li><li>Generates book plates as needed for collection items following established policies and procedures </li><li>Assists Librarians with the promotion and display of new resources to enhance and market the Library resources and spaces </li><li>Assists Librarians with class instruction as needed (demonstrating navigation of library site and databases) </li><li>Encourage reading for pleasure and the enjoyment of reading by being an active reader </li><li>Assist with ordering (books, supplies, etc) and managing credit card statements </li><li>Work with and provide basic troubleshooting for technology resources in the library, such as vinyl cutter, laptops, iPad, cameras, microphones, adapters and other audio/video resources </li><li>Keeps the library running effectively when a faculty librarian is not present </li><li>Monitors' students, handles discipline problems, and responds to patrons' needs. </li><li>Assist with photocopying, scanning, printing, uploading data </li><li>Open or close the library according to procedures </li><li>Participate in training as required </li><li>Available to assist with other projects as needed </li></ul> <p>Formal Education:</p> <ul> <li>Completion of a bachelor's degree </li></ul> <p>Prior experience:</p> <ul> <li>2-3 years' experience working in a school library or youth library setting </li></ul> <p>Other Key Competencies:</p> <ul> <li>Successfully demonstrated initiative, accuracy, attention to detail, as well as analytical and organizational skills. </li><li>Strong technology and research skills: Using laptops, iPads, Microsoft Office, audio and video equipment and other library software </li><li>Excellent interpersonal skills that reflect a commitment to inclusion and justice and the ability to develop strong working relationships with a dynamic and diverse community </li><li>Exemplary customer service and communication skills </li><li>Enjoyment working with students in an educational setting </li><li>Enjoyment of reading and research </li><li>Excellent organizational and time management skills. </li><li>Multi-tasking skills; able to support multiple job tasks simultaneously </li><li>Teambuilding skills; development and maintenance of positive interpersonal relationships </li><li>Exceptional oral communications, presentation skills, writing ability </li><li>Fluent (read/write/speak) in English language </li><li>Problem solving and critical thinking skills - the individual identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner, gathers and analyzes information skillfully and maintains confidentiality. </li><li>Interpersonal skills - the individual displays a high level of tact, diplomacy, and professionalism, while remaining approachable, helpful, and welcoming. Must maintain effective interpersonal relationships, using skills of persuasion, negotiation, support-building, and information gathering. </li><li>Planning/organizing - the individual prioritizes and plans work activities and uses time efficiently. Must work independently and with minimal supervision. </li><li>Quality control - the individual demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness and monitors own work to ensure quality. </li><li>Adaptability - the individual adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands and frequent change, delays, or unexpected events. Must demonstrate flexibility and composure to function in a rapidly changing environment amid conflicting priorities. </li><li>Dependability - the individual is consistently at work and on time, follows instructions, responds to management direction, and solicits feedback to improve performance. </li><li>Resourcefulness - ability to seek out and use cutting edge resources (products, training, etc.) to ensure the job is being done as efficiently as possible. </li><li>Ability to operate all basic office equipment. </li></ul>
