<p>Overview:</p> <p>Talcott Financial Group is seeking an Actuarial Consultant to join the Actuarial Student Program and support the Fixed & Payout Valuation team. The team focuses on several responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>Financial reporting and analysis of Talcott's fixed and payout annuities. Take ownership of many facets of financial reporting including calculation, analysis, and reporting of valuation results and financial projections. Coordinate with cross functional areas (reinsurance, accounting, finance, investments, etc.) to ensure business needs are met and fully accounted for. </li><li>In addition to traditional production/reporting tasks, numerous opportunities exist for highly visible projects & analysis, including experience analysis supporting assumption development, model & tool development and conversion of existing models in accordance with ongoing transition to new technologies, collaboration with cross-functional areas in pursuit of efficiencies and support for evolving business needs, and numerous other opportunities to improve financial reporting capabilities. </li><li>The ideal candidate will be self-driven to understand month-to-month changes in financial & inforce metrics, working to become a resource of subject matter expertise. Our team supports multiple functions throughout the organization including cash flow testing, capital outlooks, investment management, reinsurance reporting, select growth-oriented initiatives, and offshore analysis support. A driven individual in this role could engage our business partners directly in these endeavors. </li><li>Our preferred candidate shall work in a hybrid arrangement in our Hartford, CT. </li></ul> <p>About Talcott Financial Group's Actuarial Student Program</p> <p>Our program fosters leadership skills while supporting employees' progress towards the attainment of Fellowship with the Society of Actuaries (FSA). Employees within the Actuarial Student Program rotate across the company in roles of 12-18 months duration, affording diverse learning experiences and opportunities to take on impactful projects. Rotations cover all product lines and include actuarial functions such as Predictive Modeling, Pricing, Valuation, Asset Liability Management, Forecasting, Enterprise Risk Management, and Investment Management. The program is managed by a committee of actuarial leaders, including our Chief Actuary, that actively mentor and support students. Talcott looks towards the Actuarial Student Program for our next generation of Actuarial leaders.</p> <p>Attaining Professional Designations</p> <p>Students are expected to complete at least one component of the FSA pathway every 18 months. Program support includes:</p> <ul> <li>Covering the cost of exam fees, module fees, and study materials such as textbooks, study manuals, and online courses </li><li>Generous paid study time for exams and modules; and </li><li>A community of individuals studying together. </li></ul> <p>In addition to competitive company benefits, students receive raises for passing exams and first-time pass bonuses. Students that attain their ASA and FSA designations are also eligible for awards. Promotions are based on job performance and exam progress.</p> <p>Career and Leadership Development</p> <p>The Actuarial Student Program is committed to developing well-rounded Actuarial leaders. Many opportunities supplement rotational on-the-job training and technical knowledge gained through the FSA pathway. Opportunities include:</p> <ul> <li>Training courses focused on critical soft skills, such as business writing, negotiation techniques, and managerial skills </li><li>Student speaker series to develop presentation skills </li><li>Access to the Society of Actuaries' webinars and events </li><li>Supporting our community through volunteer events. </li></ul> <p>Leadership roles for senior students are encouraged and include management, recruiting, interviewing, teaching courses, and representing Talcott at industry events.</p> <p>Responsibilities:</p> <ul> <li>GAAP, Statutory, and Tax reserve reporting </li><li>Quarterly and Annual statement support (stat filings, 10K, 10Q, etc.) </li><li>Analysis & communication of inforce metrics & trending, particularly in regard to evolving regulatory landscape and anticipated impacts to liabilities </li><li>Driving continuous improvement of financial reporting & modelling processes </li><li>Supporting CFT, operations planning, investment management, and external reinsurance reporting </li><li>Experience monitoring (mortality, lapse, etc.) and assumption development </li><li>Support of initiatives to manage & grow the block of business. </li></ul> <p>Qualifications:</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, or related field </li><li>Work experience or internships in insurance or finance, including involvement with actuarial valuation, modeling, or pricing work is strongly preferred. </li><li>At least two actuarial exams </li><li>Strong teamwork skills to foster an effective working relationship with multiple areas </li><li>Strong work ethic, including the ability to multi-task and balance priorities and the desire to take pride in and ownership of work products </li><li>Self-confidence in dealing with new situations and initiatives that have not been done before </li><li>Desire to automate and improve current processes and procedures </li><li>Effective communication skills and strength in organizational capabilities are a plus </li><li>Good organization/project management skills </li><li>Familiarity with Excel, VBA, and R-Studio </li><li>Self-starter with the ability to work independently and take ownership of all aspects of the role. </li><li>Willingness to consult with various colleagues to gain deep familiarity of the business, understand modeling and assumptions. </li></ul>
