<p>MECHANIC</p> <p>PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT</p> <p>FLEET DIVISION</p> <p>MECHANIC</p> <p>Performs major and minor repair work on gas and diesel engines; replaces parts as needed; performs preventive maintenance; installs new tires on City vehicles, including autos, light and heavy duty trucks and small construction equipment; inspects equipment in order to locate cause of trouble; prepares work orders. Will be required to replace parts as needed to maintain various types of equipment. Must be able to operate different types of equipment in order to test functioning; be able to do some welding and fabricating; be able to use diagnostic equipment, pull codes, analyze and repair as needed; be able to read wiring diagrams; be available to be on-call on a rotating basis. Must have knowledge of common vehicle shop safety regulations and practices. Ability to communicate clearly with a variety of people. Performs other duties as may be assigned.</p> <p>Must have high school diploma or GED, plus five years of general automotive or municipal machinery repair experience. ASE Master level certification preferred but not required. Must be able to perform physical labor under various environmental conditions; have the ability to operate tire machine and engine analyzer; provide a complete set of own hand tools; pass background and driver's license check and physical exam, including drug screen. Bartlett resident preferred, but not required.
