<p>Title: Phlebotomist II</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Perform 25-30 blood draws per shift using straight needles and butterfly needles on patients ranging from pediatric to geriatric. </li><li>Explain venipuncture, blood draws, and other specimen collection procedures (including urine and fecal specimens) clearly and courteously to patients. </li><li>Collect, label, and store specimens according to established procedures and test requirements. </li><li>Match laboratory requisition forms or computer-generated labels to specimen tubes, ensuring 100% accuracy against the physician's orders or scripts. </li><li>Centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by specific test orders and protocols. </li><li>Package specimens for transport, including placing samples in the appropriate collection containers or tubes, labeling accurately, and following required temperature and handling procedures to maintain specimen integrity. </li><li>Record maintenance data and perform decontamination tasks in accordance with laboratory standards. </li><li>Update patient information accurately in the appropriate systems and documentation tools. </li><li>Understand and fully interpret all physician orders related to laboratory testing. </li><li>Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and all relevant safety and infection control procedures. </li><li>Attend and complete required annual department trainings. </li><li>Answer telephone calls, provide laboratory results as appropriate, and respond to inquiries in a professional manner. </li><li>Support additional testing services, including drug screenings and paternity testing, following all applicable protocols. </li><li>Assist with front-end tasks such as checking patients out and providing excellent customer service throughout the visit. </li></ul> <p>Essential Skills</p> <ul> <li>Minimum of 2-3 years of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting. </li><li>Valid phlebotomy certification from the state of Illinois. </li><li>Demonstrated proficiency in venipuncture using straight needles and butterfly needles. </li><li>Proven experience performing blood draws on pediatric through geriatric patients. </li><li>High school diploma or GED. </li></ul> <p>Job Type & Location</p> <p>This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Waukegan, IL.</p> <p>Pay and Benefits</p> <p>The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00/hr.</p> <p>Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
