<p>Overview</p> <p>The Dietetic Technician functions within a multidisciplinary team to provide nutrition therapy for inpatients and/or outpatients at UofL Health facilities per scope of assignment under the clinical supervision of a licensed, Registered Dietitian. The dietetic technician will provide safe, effective, and evidence-based nutrition care and services in accordance with guidelines from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, and other industry principles. The dietetic technician supports quality clinical outcome practice, and development and growth of individual and team nutrition therapy skills. Responsibilities include meeting objectives for department, facility, and organizational goals; interacting with professional staff, patients, and families; assisting the dietitian in providing nutrition therapy and education within area of responsibility; assisting the dietitian in providing quality learning experiences for nutrition students/interns as applicable; and maintaining professional competency and skills required for professional practice.</p> <p>Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Identifies patients at risk and participates in the nutrition care process, including nutrition assessment, diagnosis, intervention, monitoring, and education according to established departmental policies and standards of practice </li><li>Assists with or initiates data collection and documentation of elements of the nutrition assessment for finalization by the Registered Dietitian </li><li>Assists Registered Dietitian in implementation and monitoring of nutrition care plans and nutrition outcomes as assigned </li><li>Provides nutrition education in individual or group settings as assigned </li><li>Is fiscally responsible by adhering to departmental productivity standards while maintaining quality services, and monitoring appropriateness of product and mode of nutrition support </li><li>Communicates and interacts effectively with patients and families, community members, and health professionals, in accordance with evidence-based nutrition practice and customer service skills </li><li>Maintains effective working relationships with members of the medical staff, other healthcare professionals, and affiliates; participates in multi-disciplinary committees and/or activities as directed </li><li>Improves practice based on quality evaluation, and assists in data collection/analysis and research as directed </li><li>Supports Nutrition Therapy team goals, and participates in self-development to increase department level of service </li><li>Assists with precepting nutrition students/interns as applicable, with instruction and application reflecting the standards of UofL Health </li><li>Maintains competency with regular continuing education, including that in focused area of practice </li><li>Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct </li><li>Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times </li><li>Performs other duties as assigned </li></ul> <p>Qualifications</p> <p>Education:</p> <p>Required one of the below:</p> <ul> <li>Associate degree and registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration as a Nutrition and Dietetic Technician, Registered </li></ul> <p>Completion of a Bachelor's degree in nutrition/dietetics or related field that qualifies for admission to an ACEND-accredited program for Registered Dietitians such as a dietetic internship</p>
