Work at Michigan Medicine and become a victor for the greater good.</p> <p>What Benefits can you Look Forward to?</p> <ul> <li>Excellent medical, dental and vision coverage effective on your very first day </li><li>2:1 Match on retirement savings </li></ul> <p>Responsibilities*</p> <p>This position will support the Dermatology Cutaneous Surgery and Oncology unit, located in Ann Arbor.</p> <ul> <li>Prepare routine and highly specialized histologic preparations of human tissue. </li><li>Prepare microslides from surgical or autopsy material which is to be examined microscopically by a Pathologist for diagnosis. </li><li>Process tissue by washing, dehydrating, cleaning and solidifying. </li><li>Process tissue to prevent decomposition. </li><li>Imbed tissue in paraffin/block or cassette. </li><li>Cut sections of tissue to the thickness of 3-4 microns of an inch. </li><li>Assist Pathologist in the selection of appropriate special staining mechanisms to demonstrate certain tissue constituents, perform special staining, histochemical reactions, immunofluorescence, or immunoperoxidase reactions. </li><li>Prepare special biopsy specimens such as kidney biopsies which require multiple sections and variety of special stains. </li><li>Process frozen sections and decalcifications. </li><li>Maintain required records. </li><li>Maintain quality/quantity standards of quality control. </li><li>Maintain condition of assigned equipment, instrument and work area. </li><li>Process patient care orders using the electronic ordering system may be required in certain areas. </li><li>Performs other related duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Required Qualifications*</p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology or other related science field or an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience. </li><li>Manual dexterity. </li></ul> <p>Desired Qualifications*</p> <ul> <li>HT (ASCP) certification or equivalent registry. </li><li>Graduation from a histotechnologist (HTL) program. </li><li>Previous histotechnology experience. </li><li>Reasonable experience in chemistry or biology, knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in a laboratory. </li></ul> <p>Modes of Work</p> <p>Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department.
