Applicants will be notified when vacancies occur, and applications are processed.</p> <p> </p> <p>Current Police Officers</p> <p> The City of De Pere offers an elevated entry-level salary through a lateral transfer program specifically designed for Police Officers with a minimum of one year of full-time experience as a certified law enforcement officer:</p> <p> </p> <p> 1 - 5 years full-time experience - start rate up to $75,816 annual base salary</p> <p> 5 - 10 years full-time experience - start rate up to $80,796 annual base salary</p> <p> 10+ years full-time experience - start rate up to $86,064 annual base salary</p> <p> </p> <p>Vacation: Experienced officers with three or more years of full-time experience as a certified law enforcement officer may be brought in at a higher vacation rate.</p> <p> </p> <p>New Police Officers</p> <p> If you're still working toward your degree or have already completed the academy and haven't been given an opportunity to shine yet in the world of law enforcement, don't worry. In fact, the City of De Pere offers an extensive field training program for those that are new to the field.</p> <p> </p> <p>2025 Police Officer Base Salary Schedule</p> <p> Start - $66,756</p> <p> 1 Year - $71,196</p> <p> 2 Years - $75,816</p> <p> 3 Years - $80,796</p> <p> 4 Years - $86,064</p> <p> Top Police Officer Salary (5 Years) - $91,776</p> <p> </p> <p>Recruitment Process</p> <p> Applications will be accepted on a continual basis. The basic recruitment process will consist of an initial virtual interview with the Police Department, a virtual written exam, and an in-person or virtual interview with the Police Department. The Police and Fire Commission will establish an eligibility list. The De Pere Police Department is part of the Brown County multi-agency SWAT Team, Brown County Mobile Field Force Team, Brown County Drug Task Force, and Brown County Arson Task Force.</p> <p> </p> <p>The City is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Answer a wide range of non-police related service calls. Inform citizens of available services in the community. Promote crime prevention through community and educational programs. Make presentations to public and local organizations concerning crime prevention and related police matters. </li><li>Attempt to maintain the peace and safety of the community. </li><li>Provide for safe flow of traffic and pedestrians within the community. Investigate traffic accidents. Enforce traffic violations. Enforce state and local traffic laws and ordinances. Promote vehicle and pedestrian safety. Report unsafe road conditions. </li><li>Conduct criminal and non-criminal investigations. Perform surveillance. Conduct follow-up investigations. </li><li>Enforce laws and arrest lawbreakers. Make felony, misdemeanor, and ordinance arrests and issue traffic ordinance citations. </li><li>Prepare written reports, forms, and other documents as required. </li><li>Testify in criminal and civil court proceedings and give depositions. </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned. </li></ul> <p>Knowledge of:</p> <ul> <li>The criminal justice system, court operations, and the administration and execution of civil processes. </li><li>Contemporary law enforcement principles, practices, and methods. </li><li>Municipal, county, state, and federal rules and regulations related to law enforcement. </li><li>Laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, and the democratic political process. </li><li>Common safety rules, regulations, procedures, and practices to include effective restraint techniques, basic first aid and CPR. </li><li>Standard office practices and procedures including business English, business document format, spelling, grammar, punctuation, vocabulary, filing and math. </li><li>Computer software including word processing, spreadsheet, database applications, accounting and specialized software consistent for this position. </li></ul> <p>Skill in:</p> <ul> <li>The operation of motorized vehicles under adverse conditions. </li><li>The care and safe operation of firearms, chemical agents, impact weapons, and electronic control devices. </li><li>The application of modern law enforcement principles and practices through planning, organizing, assigning, directing and inspecting the work of varied police functions, and analyzing law enforcement programs and developing policies, plans, and procedures. </li><li>Operation of equipment to effectively perform the duties and responsibilities of the position, including modern office equipment. </li><li>Applying problem solving, logic and reasoning to determine solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. </li></ul> <p>Ability to:</p> <ul> <li>Make accurate, rapid, and independent decisions regarding interpretation of policy, laws, and regulations. </li><li>Direct and command people in such a manner as to obtain maximum cooperation with minimum use of coercion and minimum creation of hostility and rebellion. </li><li>Understand and obey traffic laws and regulations and statutes governing the operation of emergency vehicles. </li><li>Provide testimony in court proceedings. </li><li>Remain calm in a crisis. </li><li>Think quickly, maintain self-control, and adapt to and take control of stressful situations. </li><li>Analyze situations and adopt a quick, effective, and reasonable course of action. </li><li>Influence the behavior of others through persuasion and encouragement. Manages conflict or other sensitive issues tactfully and effectively. </li><li>Make accurate and independent decisions. </li><li>Organize, schedule, prioritize and perform duties with limited supervision. </li><li>Observe, follow oral and written instructions, and complete assignments accurately and within deadlines. </li><li>Use appropriate language, style and methods depending on audience and the purpose of communication. </li><li>Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with business representatives, elected officials, department heads, the public, and other City employees with courtesy and tact. </li><li>Develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public. </li><li>Maintain confidentiality and discretion regarding information read or heard. </li><li>Utilize a computer and required software. </li><li>Work the required hours of the position and respond after hours as needed. </li></ul> <p>Minimum Education: Associate or bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.</p> <p>Minimum Experience: A combination of education and experience may be considered.</p> <p>Minimum Certifications: Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification or eligible for Wisconsin reciprocity exam.</p> <p>Other Requirements:</p> <ul> <li>Valid unencumbered Wisconsin driver's license and safe driving record. </li><li>United States citizen. </li><li>Minimum 20 years of age t time of hire; minimum 21 years of age at the completion of Field Training Officer Program (FTO) (approximately 16 weeks after date of hire). </li><li>Must not have convictions of any Federal felony or any offense, which if committed in Wisconsin could be punishable as a felony unless the individual has received an unconditional pardon. </li><li>Residency within a 30-mile radius from the center of the Claude Allouez Bridge within 12 months of hire. </li></ul> <p>State of Wisconsin Minimum Standards for Law Enforcement Officers:</p> <ul> <li>Shall not have been convicted of any misdemeanor crime of domestic violence. </li><li>The fingerprinting of the applicant, and with a search of local, state, and national fingerprinting records. </li><li>A background investigation conducted by or on behalf of an employer. </li><li>The applicant shall complete a personal medical history. </li><li>A physical assessment shall be conducted within nine months prior to the applicant's first date of employment as an officer (i.e., pre-placement job related physical examination). </li><li>The applicant shall submit to and complete an oral interview (i.e., psychological examination). </li></ul> <p>PHYSICAL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:</p> <p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position.
