<p>Posting Number 0801820 Classification Title Plant Nutrient Extension Coordinator (INTERNAL ONLY) Working Title Department Agriculture Research Development Program (ARDP) Department Contact Email ikatampe@centralstate.edu Job Summary/Basic Function</p> <p>The Plant Nutrient Extension Coordinator will play a central role in assisting farmers with nutrient and manure management, implementing regenerative agriculture practices, and coordinating Advancing Markets for Producers (AMP) project activities. This specialist position supports farmers participating in the AMP program in OH with a focus on nutrient stewardship and climate smart, regenerative management practices in vegetable and row crop systems.</p> <p>The specialist in coordination with Production and Marketing Extension Educator will recruit and enroll farmers into the project (Objective 1); conduct manure-based and nutrient-management demonstrations (Objective 3); and help farmers determine crop-specific applications of manure, compost, and cover crops. This position will also oversee the dissemination of AMP practices to producers (Objective 5) and deliver training programs for farmers and farm technicians on nutrient and manure management in vegetable production systems. The role requires strong coordination, technical expertise, and the ability to work directly with producers, project partners, and sponsor to achieve grant objectives as such will require Postdoctoral Research Associate / Nutrient Management Specialist and Coordinator candidates.</p> <p>The position will be based at Central State University with regular travel to farms across Ohio. THIS IS A UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE (USDA), GRANT FUNDED POSITION. CONTINUATION OF THIS POSITION IS EXPECTED TO 10/31/2028; HOWEVER, IT IS CONTINGENT ON THE ANNUAL RENEWAL OF FEDERAL FUNDING.</p> <p>Essential Duties and Responsibilities</p> <p>Recruit and enroll farmers into the AMP project and support the installation, monitoring, and evaluation of AMP technologies and practices (Objective 1).</p> <p>Conduct on-farm demonstrations focused on nutrient and manure management for vegetable and specialty crop systems (Objective 3).</p> <p>Provide technical assistance and training to farmers and farm technicians on nutrient management, slurry manure utilization and cover-crop fertility management (Objective 3).</p> <p>Assist farmers with developing crop-specific nutrient plans, including determining appropriate manure and cover-crop applications based on soil conditions and crop requirements (Objective 3). Lead outreach, education, and adoption strategies for the dissemination of AMP and regenerative agriculture practices (Objective 5).</p> <p>Develop and deliver educational programming related to nutrient management, regenerative systems, and AMP project goals (Objectives 3 & 5).</p> <p>Collaborate with project leadership to ensure activities and deliverables align with grant objectives and timelines.</p> <p>Document, evaluate, and report program outcomes for USDA and institutional reporting requirements.</p> <p>Ensure all program activities follow equal opportunity and civil rights guidelines and remain accessible to diverse audiences.</p> <p>Maintain professional and effective communication with farmers, stakeholders, and partners.</p> <p>Participate in ongoing professional development to strengthen knowledge and skills in nutrient management and sustainable agriculture.</p> <p>Perform additional duties as needed to support overall project success.</p> <p>Minimum Qualifications</p> <p>Ph.D. in horticulture, sustainable plant systems, soil science, agronomy, or a closely related field.</p> <p>Experience in specialty crop production (e.g., vegetables or other plant-production systems).</p> <p>Experience within a specialty field related to nutrient management, soil health, regenerative agriculture, or similar areas.</p> <p>Experience with drip irrigation systems and/or organic production practices.</p> <p>Strong written and verbal communication skills.</p> <p>Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.</p> <p>Proficiency with computer technologies for reports, presentations, data analysis, and digital communication.</p> <p>Ability to plan and maintain a flexible work schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends as needed.</p> <p>Must be able to lift/carry/push/pull up to 30 lbs.</p> <p>Must be authorized to work in the United States</p> <p>Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle with required liability insurance for regular travel to project farms.</p> <p>Preferred Qualifications</p> <p>Extension and/or research experience beyond completion of the Ph.D.</p> <p>Demonstrated history of effective collaboration with farmers, agricultural professionals, or interdisciplinary project teams.</p> <p>Teaching experience in formal or informal educational settings.</p> <p>Demonstrated ability to build and maintain diverse networks and partnerships across agricultural and community sectors.</p> <p>Knowledge of the extension system, its operations, values, and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion-especially outreach to underserved and underrepresented groups.</p> <p>Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, including those with limited English proficiency.</p> <p>Posting Date 04/20/2026 Closing Date Open Until Filled Yes Special Instructions to Applicants</p> <p>All offer of employment at Central State University are contingent upon the successful completion of a comprehensive background check.
