<p>Concordia University is a Lutheran higher education community committed to helping students develop in mind, body and spirit for service to Christ in the Church and in the world.</p> <p>Position Summary</p> <p>The Assistant Vice President of Online, Non-Traditional, and Non-Degree Programs provides strategic leadership and delegated authority for the development, delivery, and growth of the University's online, hybrid, adult-focused, and non-degree academic portfolio. This portfolio includes fully online programs, hybrid and adult-focused offerings, and continuing education initiatives, each requiring distinct pedagogical, operational, and market strategies. Working collaboratively with academic leadership, faculty, and staff, the AVP ensures programs are mission-driven, academically rigorous, financially sustainable, and responsive to student and workforce needs.</p> <p>Central to this role is the ability to lead effectively within the ongoing tension among four interrelated priorities: academic quality, student success, operational effectiveness, and the achievement of enrollment and net revenue goals. The AVP must balance these sometimes-competing demands with wisdom and discernment, advancing institutional sustainability without compromising academic integrity, and promoting growth while remaining attentive to student outcomes, faculty capacity, and operational realities.</p> <p>The role has primary responsibility for program planning, academic quality assurance, and portfolio performance, and is in close partnership with senior leadership on strategic, operational, and budgetary priorities. Through thoughtful leadership and collaborative engagement, the AVP helps ensure that online and non-traditional programs contribute meaningfully to the University's mission, long-term vitality, and service to learners across life stages.</p> <p>Job Duties & Responsibilities</p> <ul> <li>Provide strategic leadership for the planning, development, implementation, and promotion of online, non-traditional, and non-degree academic programs </li><li>Ensure the integration of a Christian worldview across all programs within the portfolio </li><li>Serve as a trusted academic partner to faculty, supporting innovation in teaching, workload sustainability, and excellence in online pedagogy </li><li>Collaborate with the Vice President of Academics, deans, faculty, and instructional designers to align programs with institutional mission and market demand </li><li>Coordinate recruitment, retention, and growth strategies with enrollment management and marketing teams </li><li>Provide strategic and fiscal stewardship of the program portfolio, including revenue awareness, forecasting, and long-term sustainability </li><li>Oversee academic quality assurance processes to ensure rigor, student learning outcomes, and continuous improvement </li><li>Ensure compliance with Higher Learning Commission standards, specialized accreditation requirements, and best practices in online education </li><li>Lead faculty development initiatives related to online pedagogy and instructional technology </li><li>Engage external partners, employers, and community organizations to support pathways for adult and non-traditional learners, including strategic partnerships and continuing education </li><li>Work collaboratively with Admissions, Advising, Financial Aid, and other university offices to support student success </li><li>Monitor program performance and prepare regular reports on enrollment, outcomes, and program effectiveness </li><li>Lead change initiatives thoughtfully, balancing innovation with academic integrity, faculty engagement, and institutional mission </li><li>Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Academics </li></ul> <p>Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities</p> <ul> <li>Active Christian who affirms and supports the University's doctrinal statement and the Statement of Christian Affirmation </li><li>Clear alignment with Concordia University's mission, vision, and values </li><li>Demonstrated leadership experience in higher education, particularly in online, hybrid, or non-traditional program development </li><li>Strong knowledge of online learning technologies, instructional design principles, and best practices in adult and non-traditional education </li><li>Proven ability to support enrollment growth, retention, and student success for online and adult learners </li><li>Demonstrated success collaborating with academic, administrative, and community partners </li><li>Ability to manage complex, cross-departmental initiatives and lead organizational change thoughtfully and effectively </li><li>Strong communication, organizational, and team-building skills </li><li>Supportive of the mission and values of Concordia University Wisconsin/Ann Arbor and the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS) </li></ul> <p>Education & Experience</p> <ul> <li>Earned doctorate or other terminal academic degree appropriate for a faculty appointment </li><li>Earned doctorate or other terminal degree in an appropriate field (doctoral degree strongly preferred) </li><li>Demonstrated experience as a faculty member with a record of effective teaching, scholarship, and academic leadership </li><li>Proven ability to manage and lead professional staff in support of institutional goals </li><li>Experience designing, implementing, and evaluating academic programs, including online delivery modalities </li></ul> <p>Physical Demands/Equipment (Click to View)</p> <p>Compensation & Benefits</p> <p>This is a full-time, exempt (salary) faculty position. The starting wage may be determined upon education and/or experience.
