This educational support role is essential in helping students access their learning environments by removing physical barriers and promoting independence through targeted interventions.</p> <p>Working under the supervision of the Director of Pupil Services, the Physical Therapist provides school-based services that are educationally relevant and tailored to each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 Plan. This position involves collaboration with teachers, families, and support staff, as well as consultation and training to ensure inclusive educational experiences for all students.</p> <p>ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Evaluate students for physical therapy services and prepare clear, detailed reports.</p> </li><li> <p>Develop and implement physical therapy interventions aligned with students' IEPs or 504 Plans.</p> </li><li> <p>Facilitate the development of motor skills, gait training, postural control, and assistive technology use.</p> </li><li> <p>Consult with school personnel to support classroom and school environment accessibility.</p> </li><li> <p>Participate as an active member of the multidisciplinary team for special education planning.</p> </li><li> <p>Provide direct and indirect therapy services in school and community-based educational settings.</p> </li><li> <p>Train and supervise physical therapist assistants as assigned.</p> </li><li> <p>Assist in acquiring and modifying adaptive equipment and environmental supports.</p> </li><li> <p>Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with educational regulations and professional standards.</p> </li><li> <p>Travel to and between schools to provide student services.</p> </li></ul> <p>QUALIFICATIONS:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Bachelor's or Master's degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program.</p> </li><li> <p>Current Connecticut license to practice physical therapy.</p> </li><li> <p>Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to maintain professional integrity and confidentiality.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds may be required.</p> </li><li> <p>Ability to stand for extended periods and perform fine motor tasks.</p> </li></ul> <p>PREFERRED SKILLS:</p> <ul> <li> <p>Experience working in a school-based setting.</p> </li><li> <p>Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and educational service delivery models.</p> </li><li> <p>Commitment to supporting students' educational access and independence.</p> </li></ul> <p>EMPLOYMENT TERMS:</p> <ul> <li> <p>This is a salaried position at .6 FTE</p> </li><li> <p>The position is governed by an employment agreement specific to Regional School District No. 1.
